Title: MM ordered today for my Jackson
Post by: The Emperor on January 25, 2006, 11:02:35 AM
Hi,

I ordered a black covered MM today, gas  :P.  My setup is simple and i play 80's metal, thrash,death/black metal. Bands i like are Dawn, Dissection, Cradle of Filth, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Cob.

I have Jackson US Death Angel, neck-thru, alder wings, maple neck, ebony fretboard-and a Jackson RR1 with the same spec....

straight into a Engl Savage 120 with Engl V60 cab.

I have a Dimarzio Megadrive in the guitar now so this setup seams to be like neemos indeed. I will do a review when the installation is done

Horns up!

Nailbomb was a godsend for me, as I replaced the megadrive with the 'bomb, sonic domination could be heard from the first note on. This one is definitely a keeper   Excellent CoB tones!

Awesome Neemo. I decided to order the nailbomb for the RR1 next month. I think the megadrive is pretty cool so if this pickup is even better i have major gas now  :P

Miracle Man review in short first of all !

MM's are good. I use one in a '68 LP (converted from P-90's).
Nice harmonics, Zakk tone in spades, and smooth fat distortion.
No harsh top-end like many other ceramics have.

Still, my faves are the Holy Divers (new version alnicoV's) which I have in a Jackson Korina King-V. I'm real happy with the tone: Clear, fat and woody, killer harmonics. Great pick-ups, and they might be "it" for my taste so far! :)

The stuff i record is very fast and alot of picking and open chords and itīs not so much traditional metal when i play my own stuff. I really need fluidity like in the EMG 81 and tightness and string separation on high gain... as most of us high gain players.....

My main goal with my tone is just to record two guitars when recording sounding like 4 guitars coming out of the speakers  :P

MM in short and the NB next month and maybe  a hardrock axe with a holydiver or a painkiller in! the ultimate setup for a metal man :)

Awesome that you like the shape! people often think it's somewhat weird.  It's amazing how much better the DA sounds then the RR1 a huge different!. More bottom, woddier, nice sustain... simply a keeper. Tomorrow with a MM in will be very interesting !

Itīs a rythm guitar! because it's a bit hard to solo on since it's built with that SG banan hook that makes it hard to play solos on but i have learned through the years to do that aswell.  I will in the future order one more and sell my RR1. I have only seen 3 copies of the Death Angel. Thats awesome because it will be my signature git in the future   8)

Sorry to slant off a bit, but have you heard of the band Death Angel? I honestly don't know how big they are elsewhere, but they're one of my favourite bands. In fact, one of my bands is covering Kill As One. Hooray!

Ofcourse! i have all the albums "The ultra Violence" is a milestone.

(Steve Kaufman a guy who worked at the Jackson custom shop at the time made the Death Angel guitar for Rob in Death Angel with the custom graphic but i have a black with reversed headstock.)

So finally i got the guitar back from my tech  8)

I have only played the MM through my POD XT but i was floored how full, dynamic, open and tight it is at the same time.  Itīs amazing how quite the pickup is!!. The bass is much tighter and great string separation even at high gain without been flubby.

The problem is the moddeler here but it sounds so much better then the Dimarzio Megadrive DP107 in the XT.

Somebody complained about the cleans in the MM but the cleans in the MM just blowed me away, awesome. Strong, belllike with itīs own charachter.

The MM can not really be compared with the EMG! but take a Dimarzio Megadrive DP107 and add the stuff above....something like that. I also put on the strings that was included in the box and hmm... iīm not used with them yet but they sound great. The MM is the best pickup i have had so far and iīm really looking forward to test it in my amp.

A beast, ain't it? I replaced my Lindy Fralins on my LP with a Mule and a MM in the bridge, and have actually found mixing the tones to be my favourite, when clean - I hardly used both before. Of course, for metal it's a completely different story, and an awesome one at that.

Oh, and I almost forgot - yeah the ultra-violence is fantastic, but I struggle listen to it and the Art of Dying (my favourite) back to back/mixed up, as the production is so bad. Doesn't stop it being a classic in my books, but a remaster would be ace. Whaddya reckon?

A mix is a very good idea. I will put the nailbomb in the bridge of my Jackson. But Mule in the neck? what does it sound like? need a better neckpickup for my DA. I like very clean HB pickups in the neck. In my jackson RR1 i have a Bill Lawrence 500L and it sounds great.

What i reckon in that thrash type of albums is simply all Agent Steel albums including the new stuff. Testament everything, Agony "The first Defiance" the most underated thrash album ever. Amazing guitar work and great songs ...check if you can download it somewhere, awesome.

Hi !

Overall the MM is just a better pickup compared to the Megadrive. The MM have a life to it that even almost  :D  bring my cr@ppy pod xt to life. The Barknucklepickups are real craftmanship. Comparing theese two pickups is like to comparing a Porsche 944 to Porsche Carrera 4S

hAILS MAN
not to Boicott or something like that
just a little bit advice.
i have a Nailbomb bridge, and my ONLY compliment is when it comes to Black/death Blastpicking(i call it that way,but it is alsoknown as Speed Picking/Tremolo )
it kinda sounds little muddy,or toomuch tight when i Palm Mute the tremolo Blastpicking.
appart from that? No compliments at all.
in fact, this pickup is amazing.really.crushes and etc.
the perfect pickup for instrumental metal Shred, Heavy and HARD ROCK(Particularly this style)

check out my videos with the charvel
terrorizer and lock up .
they are recorded with the Nailbomb Bridge.

Ok  i always working on getting a better cooler sound then Metallica? love the sound on "Ride the lightning" but with a more modern voice to it..i'm very close now with the Jackson DA with the MM straight in the Savage 120

Great Savage 120 clip below Metallica "Creeping Death"... think this with a MM or a Nailbomb !

Sounds awesome, which clip had the Miracle Mna or Nailbomb in though, i got confused, is it the Creeping Death one or the one below Creeping Death? Also what wood is the DA?

Alder body, (quartersawn maple neck through body, ebony fingerboard) so its exactely the same specs as an black RR1 but it has 24 frets and tear inlays. But the sound of theese two guitars are very different. The DA is very solid more like a Kelly probably and the RR1 as a more bite more aggresive sounding
