Title: New Member... pickup for ESP M-II?
Post by: Jack5150 on October 30, 2011, 03:14:03 AM
Hi all,

Firstly... love BKP! I'll be putting them in all my guitars.

Anyhow, just wondering what pickups would be suitable for my ESP M-II NTB.
I'm wanting to replace the EMG 81s it came with. Love the gain, but there's simply no "soul" to the tone.

The specs:
Alder body, maple neck-thru construction, rosewood fretboard
3-way toggle, single volume

What sound I'm looking for?
A contemporary high-output set. I play everything from death metal to blues. Gary Moore and Steve Vai one minute, Dream Theater and Metallica the next. Versatility is important, but I'll be using them for rock/metal 90% of the time.
Alder is a naturally bright tonewood, so I'm after a a tight articulate bridge pup that will help add some low-end punch. Something powerful that will cut through the mix, but still deliver the bass and lower-mids for metal ;-)
Neck pup... something "creamy". Sweet enough for rock and blues solos, aggresive and tight enough for sweeps etc.

I'll be using the 3 way toggle, and single volume configuration. Most probably replace the volume with a push-pull pot so I can get some single coil strat type sounds.
Pushed in...
1)Bridge pup 2) Both pups 3)Neck Pup
Pulled out...
1)Bridge coil 2) Both outer coils 3) Coil closest to neck

Is this configuration possible?

I'd appreciate the help :-)
