I love Sabbath. But I have a dark sense of foreboding... If the four of them get together again, there'll be a death involved, you mark my words.
-
Hmmm
-
Interesting.... but it's not going to be anything long-term, I'm sure.
-
At this point, I can't get excited about anything Ozzy is involved with...
-
Ozzy is just too toasted to bring anything new to Sabbath. Shame, but the dude really is broken now. Personally I'd like to see H&H move on with a new front man in the form of Jorn Lande (who as far as I can tell was the result of some demonic cloning ritual involving David Coverdale and Ronnie James Dio). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9BmH1v6vHw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9BmH1v6vHw) Wind it forward to 35m for some Dio, 52m for some Purple and 1h:09m for some Whitesnake. Bit of Lizzy early on too at 18m 30s

plus mother-lovin' one... I never really liked his vocals to begin with, and age has NOT been kind to him. I too wish they'd just soldier on with Heaven & Hell.
-
Presumably this is just going to some sort of one-off gig or mini tour.
But long-term, I agree they'd be better off just plugging on with Heaven & Hell. Find a new singer - not a big name with another full-time gig to juggle - and make it a proper, permanent band.
Even if there was a Sabbath reunion, Bill would soon bail out and Ozzy would be disappearing periodically to do his solo stuff, leaving Tony and Geezer to twiddle their thumbs. And let's not forget Sharon sticking her bloody nose in and stirring things up...
-
Bill Ward is too unwell to do any touring, I suspect.
I hope that they manage to record; I think that a final album with the original lineup would be fitting.

Ah, you've been reading the Iommi bigraphy, haven't you? :)
What is wrong with Bill, health-wise? I don't recall actually reading about it anywhere, but I got the impression it was mostly a case of him not wanting to deal with the stress.
It's a shame he's not able to be involved much, whenever I've seen documentaries about the band he always seems like a really nice, intelligent guy with something interesting to say.

Yeah, he seems like a top bloke.
He had a heart attack a few years back, and suffers from fatigue, I believe.
Finished the book this morning - interesting but like the Ozzy book, it became something of a list of places they all got rat-@rsed.
I'd like him to have talked about guitars and amps! Surely most of his readers will be interested guitar players???

Certain things are never meant for the ears of mere mortals. It's for our own good.

There used to be a pretty detailed gear section on Iommi's site. Don't know if it's still up.
Why do all these biographies turn into either open assaults on ex-bandmates or tall tales of debauchery?
-
Gear section is still there, but there used to be a lot more pictures :(

11-11-11 + Black Sabbath = End of the World

It's a pity he didn't finish strangling her the first time round.

Because 9 times out of 10 if you take away the high school drama and rampant drug use there is very little left ...
-
so the announcement was made, and it turns out the journalist Iommi slagged off was right :)
the original line up reform, a new album early next year, playing Download in June and a world tour to follow.
i'll buy the album of course, but it's stranglely unexciting. i think how good Heaven and Hell was kind of leaves a sinking feeling of "what if..." about it all
-

I feel the same. Is it us getting old, or them?
-
it's them of course, Philly! 8)
-
i'd rather have heard a new Heaven and Hell album too.
cool news anyway!
-
But will it happen? Will Ozzy's famous insecurity around Iommi lead him to run to Sharon for protection and then cause a big bust up. Still, I hope it does happen - and that, with Geezer's growing political edge in recent years, he writes the lyrics in the mould of the old skool Sabbath.
-
Well, I'm excited about it. True - I loved the Heaven & Hell stuff, but I'm hoping that that the new Sabbath album will hark back to a more raw, more stripped down band!
We'll see.
-
Looking forward to hearing how they sound, but they're going to have to go some to beat "Bible Black" for me. Dio was awesome on that :D
-
Looks like some Sharon machinations are going on...
http://www.billward.com/ (http://www.billward.com/)
It's a shame - Bill Ward is a great feel drummer...
-
Sharon Osbourne in money grabbing contract shocker. This doesn't really surprise me. I know he doesn't name her but it is fairly obvious that she is involved in this.
-
It's preposterous, that's what it is...
-
Sounds very dodgy, and it probably is Sharon up to her usual tricks. She can't resist, seemingly.
However (rather like Paul Reed Smith and his "21 Rules of Tone"), it would be nice to know what the mysterious "unsignable" contract actually says. Is it a serious financial issue, or something trivial which could be easily thrashed out? It's like the MacGuffin in a Hitchc--k film.
-
There was, I fear, a grim inevitability about all of this. I feel the same as I did when Van Halen reformed but Michael Anthony got the boot as in, if they toured I'd go because I was too young to see them in their pomp and their music means a lot to me but it would be with a slightly bitter taste in my mouth.
-
I'm not a big Sabbath fan but this stinks. That wife of Ozzy's is a witch. :x
-
Seems to be a done deal - no Bill Ward:

"We were saddened to hear yesterday via Facebook that Bill declined publicly to participate in our current Black Sabbath plans," they wrote. "We have no choice but to continue recording without him although our door is always open..."
It always pisses me off when I read about people who know each other and actually work together "hearing things via Facebook". You get exactly the same thing in football, where managers - apparently - never deal face-to-face with their own players.
Why don't they just speak to each other, for $%'s sake? :x
On the face of it, it's disappointing that Tony and Geezer are going along with this. On the other hand, perhaps Bill's being a pain in the arse. We can't know the truth at this point.

Not entirely unexpected. No point continuing now.
-
Marvellous.
Well, that's saved me a few quid.
-
It surprises me that Geezer and Tony would agree to Sharon firing Bill. As much as she comes across as a loathsome witch I'm sure there's more to this story..............
I'd love to see them but I wouldn't be able to bring myself to say 'I saw Black Sabbath'. Bill Ward is just too big a part of it. Like Charlie Watts, Keith Moon, John Bonham - not the same without them.
-
^ agreed. There must be more to it... publicity stunt maybe to gain more momentum? Seems momentous enough to me, to be honest...
