Title: Two Tone/Flip Flop Guitar Finishes. Help Anyone?
Post by: Cammi on November 20, 2011, 07:26:04 PM
I just wondered if anyone knows any websites were I can see pictures of the different colours of Flip Flop finishes? I'm really interested in getting a guitar done this way, but haven't really witnessed a lot of varieties as of yet. I'm really interested in seeing a Black/Red finish if anyone knows of any good links?

Cheers

Had a look around, but couldn't really find anything. I already have a luthier to do it. I'm just after links of pictures since I can't seem to find any anywhere. And is the Purple/Green/Bronze the colour he used on the G3 DVD? Mystic Dream I think?

Here is mine. In this pic it has some big assed chrome knobs on that the previous owner put on (a Mr Andy James). I've put the regular knobs back on the guitar since I took this pic.

Getting one of the chameleon colour change finishes done is very expensive

There are as number of 2 colour and 3 colour flips

You must paint the guitar (or car) matt black first, then apply the paint in a way that it all lays down the same way for the prismatic effect to work. Then add a layer of clear .

The prismatic paint when I last looked was pretty expensive for a litre

But it is a great effect- sometimes it can be hard to get a great photo of it though compared to how it looks to the naked eye.

The most recent one I saw was done by Sims Custom - looked nice

I had an SG in "Flip Flop Teal" - it looked blue from some angles, green from others.

Nice paintwork, but it was a bloody awful guitar.  :?

This is my first post on this forum but I am currently refinishing and changing hardware/electronics on a cheaply acquired Ibanez RG ($50 US). I am going to be finishing it in a flip flop style color from Dupli-Color's "Mirage" paint product line. They have three different variations Purple/Green, Red/Blue, and "Ice". Here is their site:

First time I've seen those paints sold in cans - maybe prices will have fallen now the novelty has worn off.

Did you ever do a flip-flop guitar Jonathan?
