I'm using a TC Electronic Nova Repeater and when I turn up the distortion either on my amp or by using a pedal the delay signal is getting considerably lower - close to not existing at all with a lot of gain even though the delay pedals signal is turnd to max. Is this normal behaviour for a delay pedal? I have only owned one delay pedal previous (T-Rex Replica) and I didn't have this issue with that pedal.

It doesn't matter where I place it. It's the same if it's in front, in the series or in the parallel loop. :(

How does it behave with the kill dry function enabled? Are your clean sounds distorting at all when run though the Nova?

The clean sounds are as clean as they can be. No distortion here.

So the with a clean signal it behaves OK, delays and all that. Hmmm. Do I understand that correctly?
That's such weird behavior. I'd like to know what it does with the distortion on and the dry signal completely off.

that is weird. i recently got the tonerider analogue delay, and it hates being in a loop (there's a big volume drop), but then it's getting a different signal level in the loop so that possibly makes sense (although it's annoying as i'd want to use it in a loop :lol: ). But distortion affecting it is weird.

The delay will of course muddy up somewhat if you add distortion _after_ it (I like it as far as I'm concerned but that's not the point), but what you describe here is by no mean "normal behaviour" for the Nova Repeater nor for any other delay I've ever used.

Maybe it's a phase issue, as the phase flips every time you add a gain stage in a valve amp. But not sure, it's just a thought.
Apart from that, it's normal that the delay level is more noticeable on clean sounds, as they have a faster attack and it's mainly the attack phase that is audible in delay repeats.

Strangest thing just happened. I checked the Nova Repeater alone in the series and parallel loops and same problem remained, but then I ran through the front of the amp and the signal was loud and clear even with loads of distortion. I connected it to the other pedals that runs through the front of the amp and still no problems. I don't know why it's acting strange in the loop??? But I'm just happy that it's working now :D

The loop problem is the signal out of the loop is BIG, and the pedal can't take it. Most pedals are like this, which is why rack stuff is best in the loop as it's designed for line level...

Well, that was a strange evolution for a troubleshoot. Glad you don't have to junk it, but I read the owner's manual online and it should take loop level just fine.
From TC Electronic:
The pedal features two inputs dedicated to instrument or line level signals which means you can use it equally well in front of your amp or in an effects loop.

I wouldn't say most pedals are like that, dave... most (all?) of my other pedals are absolutely fine in teh loop. though i'd agree the bigger signal is probably the problem, and it certainly can affect some pedals. :)
