Title: Alder- can someone check my choices before I spend all that money...?
Post by: iamseymour on December 06, 2011, 12:20:04 AM
First off, my first post, so hello!

GUITAR: Alder body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard. It is configured a H/S/H.

BRIDGE HUMBUCKER:
I love bands like Meshuggah but I also absolutely love  Queens of the Stone age. I want metal and blues!

Nailbomb? Good all rounder for the alder? Will it chug?

MIDDLE SINGLE: Thought there was an opportunity for SRV strat-style blues.  Is it a dumb idea to try and tailor a guitar for metal AND vintage as hell blues at the same time?

Slow Hand? Heavy bluesy goodness?

I will leave the neck alone (I also want a sustainer.)

Are these good choices?
Thanks in advance!

Also the guitar is a Westone in case there's any of you Westone fans in the house!

Hi, welcome here!
The Nailbomb is tight enough. I have another option: Stockholm hb-sized P90 will chug, is capable of Queen of the Stone Ages-sounds too and when you clean it up on the guitar, you can play blues with it too. Of course you have to like P90's and stand a bit of hum. Slowhand in the middle will provide the vintagevibe you're after with enhanced mids.

Just my 2 cents.

No, but you may have to strike a compromise between the two or compromise both.

I never played a Nailbomb in an alder guitar - mine is in a mahogany body/maple cap and mahogany neck equipped guitar. There is certainly enough bass and enough tightness.

Cheers Stephan
