Hi folks,
I have read many times that the VHII has asymmetrical winds but
1. do both bridge and neck versions have asymmetrical winds and
2. which coil has more winds on it - the screw coil or the slug coil?
Thanks and kind regards,
Stephan

1) Probably
2) No idea
Helpful aren't I?

1. I would say yes, because it's a part of it's sound. but it's question for Tim at BKP
2. I think that screw coil has more winds than slug coil. the main "job" of slug coil is to cancel the hum
-
But the slugs are normally used when split, so I would put extra on those if it was me....
-
are you sure? I thought that slug coil is wired to the ground when push pull pot is pulled out :)

I'm sure. The 'start' or 'hot' of a humbucker is usually the slug coil - see these BKP diagrams:
http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/downloads/schematics/general/humbuckers/humbucker_colour_code_conversion_chart.pdf
http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/downloads/schematics/general/humbuckers/2_hum__2_vol__2_push_pull_tone_coilsplit__3_way_toggle.pdf
For humbucker operation, a BKP has green/white together and earthed, red is 'hot' and black is earthed too. If you split one, green and white go to earth therefore you're seeing red - green, the slug coil ;)
Unless you wire it 'backwards' then you can have it the other way instead....
-
yep, you're right. I don't know why I thought that opposite is true

Thanks guys!
Since I have a neck pickup I will measure and post the results. I don't have a bridge pickup yet. And I was not sure which wires belong to which coil but everything said so far makes perfect sense.
Once again thank you very much.
Cheers Stephan
