I've thinking about replacing all the pots in my Les Paul and getting rid of the metal shielding plate as it makes repairs a pain in the arse.
I currently have to use long shaft pots - with the metal plate gone, will standard short-shaft pots be long enough to get through the maple cap on my standard?

This depends on how deep your route is. But I really don't know - I use long shaft pots in my Les Pauls even though they don't have the shielding plate.
Cheers Stephan

I think you'd probably get away with short pots.
I used the long ones when I upgraded mine & the knobs ended up well clear of the body - I had to use the washers & nuts from the old Gibson pots to take them down to where they were supposed to be.
I'd wait for another opinion before ordering though as I don't remember how much excess there was.

Off topic here but I can't post in the classifieds section.
HTH, what's the impedance of your 5w mini amp?
It sounds great with the tele, have you tried it with a LP?

I think Standards are OK with short pots and only the vintage reissues need long shaft pots.
Knowing Gibson though, each guitar could be different. Can you get hold of a short shaft pot to check?

I suppose thats the easiest way Dave - funny how it takes someone else to point out the bloody obvious

It sounds great with a LP too - was just cranking it the other day as it happens.
