So, I was waiting for my train tonight at London Victoria and I saw a guy exiting the platform in front of me - short, stocky, fifty-something with long hair and a grey beard, he caught my attention because he looked like a musician. Or maybe a well-off roadie.
He was met by another middle-aged guy who didn't look like a musician, but did look very familiar.
Then a third guy turned up - taller, skinny, dressed in an expensive-looking overcoat and with white hair tied in a ponytail. I thought he definitely looks like a musician. Then he turns round and....
..... it's James Patrick Page, OBE. :o
They walked past me and I just stood there grinning like an idiot. Then they were gone.
Wonder what he was doing there?
-
Awesome Philly! :D Sometimes small things can be great
-
Wonder what he was doing there?
Just a wild guess : catching a train perhaps?
:P
-
I wonder if he had a ticket.
-
You should have tried to flog him some of those guitar bits you've got under your bed

Well no, he wasn't :P - he and the second guy were meeting the first guy who'd just arrived at the station.
So maybe the question is, who was the first guy?
-
You should have snagged a pic with your phone, Phil!
-
Sorry Philly - it was me (hair's gone white with all the house-purchasing worry), I saw you but I was late for meeting the guys for a curry... should've said hi, but...
Seriously though, I think Mr Page is one of the famous people I'd actually risk making a dick of myself over and try to say hello and, well, "thankyou".
I'd probably have ended up doing the same as you though

Not possible, Dave!

(Although I would never dream of doing that anyway)

Yeah, I was thinking I should say something - I tried to make eye contact, at least - but the moment just sort of passed.... :?

Oh, I forgot to say - I realised the second guy was Ross Halfin, the photographer.
Still no idea who the first bloke was, though.
-
Nice one Philly. I wonder of Jimmy realised he was stood near the most active poster to the BKP forum. Perhaps not but I reckon he would have been equally star struck!
-
Blimey Phil, you technophobe!
The other guy wasn't Rick Rubin was it?

Technophobe? The Nokia 3310 is the Les Paul Junior of mobiles! :P
But no, definitely not Rick Rubin!
This bloke certainly "looked British" and had a full head of hair. He made me think of a younger, much heavier Mick Box (although there wasn't really that much resemblance).

Perhaps not!

Santa always travels by a reindeer-driven sleigh, so we can scratch him off.

So, let's get this right.....

You see a Iconic Rock Photographer...
You could have got YOUR PICTURE with Page taken by Ross Halfin...
You DON'T HAVE a f**king camera phone!!!!!!

But Afghan, you have to admit that the tone on those vintage phones is much better: warmer with greater touch sensitivity.

i saw him at one of teh big london train stations, too, a couple of years ago (i think it might have been victoria too, but i can't remember for sure)
at least i think it was him

And usually they have that lantern thing that helps a lot to search things when you're at bed or the electricity fails...

:?
It was an EPIC FAIL, wasn't it?
I don't tend to think very quickly under stress.

I was once on the same train as Nick Barker!!!
As only 2 of you will know who he is, he's ex drummer of Cradle of Filth

I knew who he was! Also played with Dimmu Borgir?
So there must be a lot more than 2 of us who'll know that, since I'm as old as the hills! :P
-
And like a lot of CoF members, didn't he do a stint in My Dying Bride?
-
Great story Phil, i think i would have just stared star struck if it had been me.
