Hi picked up a ebay purchase today. A marshall 9100 power amp. Basically 2 50 watt power amps in one box. Just tried it and am very happy.
-
Nice buy! Congrats!
-
lovely power amp, got one myself off ebay with a set of Winged =C= in it for £250
I'd take that over the 100 Watt a side version, use it at 50 Watts for smaller gigs or both sides of the amp if you're playing a stadium.
-
Frank I do not think the stadium tour is happening any time soon. lol! So I too will just to using one side of the amp too. Mine unfortunatly was not has cheaph as yours. It cost me £300 but I am very happy with it for that price.

£300 is still a great price and as long as you don't mind lugging that huge weight round it's a terrific piece of kit. If you've got any christmas money left then Winged C tubes will make it sing and growl. And if you're feeling adventurous you could fit 6L6 tubes in one half (need to tweak the bias!) for a bit of tonal variation.
-
Frank to be honest I have not looked what valves are in it at the moment. I like the idea of having 2 different types in there.

Nice one! I purchased the earlier version of that beast: the 9005. It's a lot of fun, and really addictive to play in stereo. Plus it makes it really easy for a buddy to bring a pod over or something and jam. I like to run JJ EL-34s i one channel and the big bottle 6CA7s in the other.
-
Gareth - your amp is fitted with an unusual tube that is labelled as a 5881 but it is not the old style 5881 but rather a russian variation that Marshall were able to get hold of when EL34s went a bit scarce.
I have exactly the same amp and it sounds really good - somewhere between 6L6 and EL34
-
Cool amp mate, should have kept mine. What are you going to run through it?
-
If it uses 5881 tubes instead of EL34 ... you could get yourself a lifetime supply of replacements (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270900831624?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649)

Those are the ones......

If it uses 5881s, from what I remember you have to use the Russian "button base" variety as others are too tall to fit in the chassis.
I would check this before you buy any replacements.
