Post by: ChrisB619 on January 31, 2006, 07:37:55 PM
Well, its that time of the year, and about time i thought about doing it!!!

Can anybody suggest what song would be a good one to do, moderately difficult but not all out shred???

I was thinking bad boys by whitesnake and paradise city by guns n roses, but could anybody suggest anything???

Cheers!

the end of Paradise City is pretty shred, isn't it? I mean, techinically, it's quite choppy!

I always thought Cause We've Ended As Lovers by Jeff Beck would be great, I recommended it to _Tom_ a while back. It's got so much sublety and control. Do you know how A Level Markers mark guitar performances? Do they place much importance on feel, subtlety, etc? I'm guessing they do. For my GCSE we did 'Know Your Enemy' by RATM, that was pretty cool! :D

This one's an ensemble performance, meaning that the other player can do some shred!

I think they tend to mark it on how accurately you play with the music you submit with the recording, its not based on feel etc etc.....pretty stupid actually!

yeah, thats what im thinking. I remember that when I did GCSE, I think the examing board was AQA, Im not sure though - they marked you on how accurate it was, and then multiplied that score by either 1, 1.5, or 2, depending on the difficulty of the piece.

Colorado Bulldog by Racer X.

I played it for my National Diploma course at college and got top grade for it and it's not really that hard

The classical guitar duel bit from Crossroads. It has some fast bits, but I wouldn't call it shred. I think it's called Eugene's Trick Bag.

lol eugenes trick bag is total shred!

I would reccomend "the loner" by Gary moore, if you wanna be really unique tho anything by Blues Sarraceno. Blues is godlike with his phrasing and he's much is pretty original guitar wise.

Maybe you could do your own composition surely that would get your a lot of bonus points.
