Title: Advice on how to get into the music business.
Post by: Kiichi on January 03, 2012, 01:46:40 PM
Wise men of the forum I seek your advice.

I recently got my Abitur (german degree) and am now spending a year at a youth center / concert and event venue / cinema. I do live mixing for local, national and rarely international bands. But that ends in August and I am searching for options on what to do then.

I often did soulsearching over the last couple of years and I always came to the same conclusion: I need to be in the music business. Preferably end up as a producer, but I´ll take basecally anything to start with. I just need to work with music, there is no question about it. If it would pay enough I´d love to learn how to make guitars or pickups or pedals, anything music really.

Now I am very aware that this is easier said than done, but I really see no other way for me as the music business.

So while I am applying to schools and concidering options I ask you:

Which paths in the industrie should I look at?

Can you recommend specific schools?

Any advice on where I can find work in the industrie in general perhaps?

Pointers to appreticeships would be most amazing.

I would like to hear every little info you can give me, whether it is general advice, schools you know or even people you know who got a job opening for me.

Cheers

Audition for a hotel / theatre / club band and do a season in a holiday destination is a good starting point for practical experience. UAE is a decent starting place for tax reasons. Possibly the easiest foot in the door I can think of
