Title: Pickup Choice
Post by: ful on January 04, 2012, 01:46:32 PM
Hi there,

I was wondering if I could get some recommendations on which pickups to choose for a Les Paul Traditional.
I'm aiming for a very mid range hard rock sound like Extreme and Steel Panther.

Thanks.  :)

Welcome!

What amp(s) are you using?  Any booster pedals?

Hi there,

Right now I have a modded Marshall Class 5 going through a single Twin Reverb speaker.
Planning on getting a proper 2 x 12 loaded with Vintage 30s at some point.

As for the pedals I have an MXR Distortion III and Dynacomp for boost right now.
Thinking of perhaps purchasing a Hardwire CM2.

OK, so you're basically boosting a Plexi.  The tones you're talking about were done on superstrats, so you'll probably want something bright to complement the fatter tone of your LP.

I'd say you should look at:

Mules
Riff Raffs
VHIIs
Rebel Yells

If you go any hotter than that, I think the tone will be too fat for you.  Have a listen to the soundclips on the site and good luck!

You could add Emeralds to that list?

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys.
The Rebel Yells seem like a good pick to me right now.
