Title: Pole Pieces; Nickle, Gold, Black, Do they effect the Tone?
Post by: DoomBuggi on January 05, 2012, 03:05:42 PM
This may seem like an idiotic question, but it seems that everything contributes to sound.  So does the Pole Pieces, made differently?  For example;  Nickle and the Gold.  I read that Diameter can make a difference, curious about this really.
Thanks, and please excuse my ignorance.

I think the shape, size and material of the polepieces affects the sound, because they affect the magnetic field.  And two rows of adjustable poles will sound a little different from a row of screws and a row of slugs.

But I don't think gold, nickel or black plating will make a significant difference!

material does make a difference, but I guess they're made the same, with different platings only, and that shouldn't affect audible tone

I remember reading that bigger pole pieces, such as hex screws, give more low end. Can anyone confirm this?
