Guess that really depends on what kind of music you are going to play. As well as tuning. As well as amp used.
-
nailbomb
maybe a miracle man
-
No idea about the pickups, but nice guitar! :D
I've often been tempted to buy a Voodoo SG.
-
Extreme metal/grindcore :) Thats what i play
-
I've had the Miracle Man first, very hard-hitting and good sound. Very defined. However, I've now settled on a Nailbomb, warmer, more refined and versatile.
For the most extreme stuff I imagine something like the Warpig would be best.
-
Yeah im actually thinking of getting a Ceramic warpig for this one. Or maybe the aftermath :)
-
I played a Voodoo Explorer once with an EMG 81 in the bridge and the sound was piercing my ears!
You'll need a pickup that can deal with those extremely bright swamp ash guitars. I would suggest an alnico Warpig, no ceramic pickup (unless you are aiming to sound like a chainsaw)

Chainsaws are too dark for my taste
-
Nailbomb, always nailbomb!

Well it does not matter at all. i called the guy and asked him if i could go and pick it up tomorrow. Some dude had picked it på 30 mins earlier.
So here i am again.
I wanted that guitar since it came out in 2002. I never had the money while it was in production. For the last 3-4 years, i've been looking for one. Found it yesterday, and now its already sold. even for a discount of what the original price was...
Im actually feeling quite hurt...

this totally bites man :( i wanted to congratulate you on a great taste... but don't worry, another will come up in the end - keep your eye open
-
Yeah, a moment of silence, please :(
-
I feel sorry for you, but maybe another one will come up soon. They don't go that cheap though. When I got mine I paid almost 700£ for it (I think). But I really wanted one.
The neck is my favorite part of this guitar. Thick yet slick, low and fast action yet few buzz, not too large frets (not a fan of jumbo frets), super strong and stable.

Wow really..i remember liking it when it came out, but went with a standard (SG model that is) as the voodoo's seemed cheaper in quality.
I too have always liked the look of them though.......
definitely sux ....

Voodoos are a different sound than mahogany SGs...be careful not to choose a pickup for an SG standard and expect it to work well in a voodoo... Might be worth looking for a mid boosting pickup?
