Title: Mounting Screws - Reccomendation for a safer install
Post by: DaveyHoran on January 10, 2012, 02:33:04 PM

Got my first BKPs yesterday and immediatley got installing (or should I say immediatley got a mate to do it). This may seem a little obvious point to make but I think it would make more sense if the mounting screws that come with the pickups were Philips, for 2 reasons:

1. A philips screw (and screwdriver) will allow the user more grip when messing about trying to get the screws through the springs. (see photo for example of the moment when many curses were shouted aloud)

2. A philips screwdriver is less likely to slip and scratch the guitar finish when the user is adjusting the pickup height.

I agree 100% - I always replace the screws with Phillips ones, I hate the slot-head ones.

I suppose the only advantage of the slot-heads is that - once fitted - you can tweak pickup height when you're "out and about" using a variety of screwdrivers, knives etc without having to find a correctly sized Phillips driver.

I love them for this purpose but i use the edge of my plectrum

I dont think I have ever had to re-adjust my pick-up height without it being a planned guitar set up where tools were available... Is there much call for live (real time) pickup adjustment without doing all the other checks that come with a proper set-up???
