Title: power strips
Post by: Ochaye on January 12, 2012, 12:01:09 AM
what do most folk here use for their stage power supply strips?

not the expensive power conditioners...but there must be something better than the ordinary strip as used by lawn mowers and gardeners,yeah?

you could try and find one with fused outputs and a circuit breaker built in?
I have a 12 output rackmount unit doing nothing. I think its made by Olsen. It's not a conditioner I don't think.

I think the conditioner I use was about 25-30 quid. It's a black 6-way unit, can't remember the make off the top of my head I'm afraid. I didn't consider that too outrageously expensive, and it does the job!

I use either a normal power strip with a built in surge protector (or 2 separate units if need be) or if I'm using my rack for FX I have a Samson Power Conditioner in there that does the job for about £30.

I had an issue with what sounded like a bad ground in my amp when I moved house, but it turned out to be the particular socket on my 4 output cheapo mains strip. Probably has one no-so-good ground in it. something to be aware of if you stick with the super cheap mains strips. RCD is always good. Fuses stop fires, RCD's stop people dying.

Spend some decent cash on a good power bar, you wont regret it! I found one that had 2 of the sockets spaced out for adapter plug ins - very useful!

^ ^ that's the way i look at it. I mean i'm as worried about tone as anyone, but if it comes down to a little extra background noise or being dead, i think i'm going to take the noise :lol:

I tend to use the 6-way strips from Ikea-- They're sturdy, fused, switched and surge protected... and cheap, too! Love Ikea :)

Normally I would recommend this;

But, I after I read that Monster Cable is supporting Internet Censorship, I may be boycotting that company.  I have to read more about it, and cross reference it to make sure that it is true first.

No matter how good something may be, I will never support anything that stands against freedom.

I would appreciate knowing other options as well.

I've added this to my post for those of you interested about the Internet Censorship;

http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20110118/12431012712/companies-who-support-censoring-internet.shtml

I am from America (United States), sadly the companies listed on the above link are all American based.  Though I love this land, and what this country was founded on (except the blood-shed of my indigenous/tribal heritage), I can't help to shake my head at what goes on with the majority of my fellow country folk.  My country gets a bad wrap about the worldly activities and events that it is involved in, but I assure you that there is more than a handful of people that are evolved spirits.

My apologies for expressing this on the forum, but it is relevant.  We are musicians, and musicians move masses with their art.  Music is about expression, and freedom speech.  The right to live however one may choose to, without harm to others.
