I think a lot of us are getting sick of this type of s%$t down here. It applies to all types of music gear (and everything else for that matter). It's not shipping costs. I haven't bought a guitar in this country in years either and I'm not spending $700 on a set of pickups.

$% me that's a markup and a half!

Two and a quarter markup to be exact!

Import tax has a lot to do with things-- I was just in Korea (south, the sane one ;) ), and our distributor was telling me that for a while, import tax on electronic items was 70%! Partly to try and encourage more manufacturing in the country. 250% markup does seem like quite a lot, however I work for a company that adds about the same margin when reselling things... does seem quite cheeky for pickups, though!

Under AUD$1000 we pay no duty when importing stuff as individuals. Over that we pay 10%.

Buy them off the site here. I did and I live in Australia. I bought some EMG's off ebay from an Aussie as they were cheaper than the stores.

Wow, in the UK we pay VAT on anything over £15. And they're getting rid of that in April.
Then import duty on top of that.
But it seems you suffer with higher prices anyway.
