I'm selling my 6 string Harley Benton Bass, as after all these years, I have decided that I really don't need those two extra strings (I was going through a Dream Theater phase when I decided to buy a bass for recording).
It was only about £130 new from Thomann, and I'm selling it for around £75 to a friend.
So, now I'm looking for a four-string Bass to replace it mainly for recording, but probably as a live back-up Bass for the band too.
Are these kits any good: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Unfinished-P-Bass-Style-Bass-Guitar-Kit-Project-New-/310303016035?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item483f804463
I know it'll be basic stuff, but I quite like the idea of customising the finish before putting it together etc. Just wondering if it will still sound alright, being cheapo-pap? Anyone had experience?
If not, I am also thinking of using the £75 and part exchanging my Jackson DR7T at my local axery and getting something else. They probably won't give me a lot for the Guitar, so I guess all in I'll have a budget of about £250. I've heard the Squier P-Basses are actually not bad for the money. Any other suggestions? It'll be mainly for Metal / Prog rock type stuff, so a bit of natural growl will be in order, I think.

I have done one of these kits before a flying V one it plays pretty well and the stock pickups while not fantastic were perfectly useable.
It was very resonant too

Hmmm, might be worth a try then, heh.
