Hi
Just wondered if anyone had any experience fitting a Tele bridge pickup into a Strat?
I realise there will be a bit of routing involved. And that Strats have a different offset angle to Teles. Any other issues people have encountered?
There's a few companies sell soundalikes in Strat covers but I would kind of prefer it to look like what it is!
Harmonic Design sell one that still looks like a Tele and apparently just has a bit shaved off the baseplate or whatever to make it fit. They even claim the poles line up better than the Strat p/u! Which I can believe as they don't line up well on my Strat currently.
Love to hear from anyone who's tried this...

You'll need a new pickguard. A Tele pickup has three mounting srews. Reverend used to make a guitar with a Tele bridge pickup and two strat pickups. the Avenger T.

I knew it was a good idea!
Besides... I'll need a new pickguard anyway for what I'm planning....
Man Bigsby trems are ugly aren't they?

Haha i wouldn't say that near ratrod dude. I quite them aestheticly in the right context - i.e. on retro looking guitars
-
Thats one cool looking guitar AND they've solved the cr@p Strat bridge pickup problem
I personally love Bigsbys & have toyed with putting one on my Les Paul in the past.
-
yer i love the look of bigsby's too- they're so much more substantial than a tiny little trem-arm... :P
-
Bigsbys do look cool on retro guitars. I dig that big white beast the guy in Calexico plays -- an old Airline, I think. There's a company that makes pretty replicas of those for quite reasonable prices .... Eastwood, I think. Oughta get one some day to indulge my Mexican Spaghetti Western fantasies :)

Richard Thompson's custom made 'Ferringtonocaster' has a P90 neck, strat middle and a telecaster bridge - he can get some cool sounds out of that combo:
-
been thinking along those lines, although a P90 would presumably overpower the other two somewhat and it would be hard to get a volume balance when changing between pickups
I'm still not convinced about the Bigsby...

If gochaz was here, he'd crusify you and your bigsby blasphemy! You'll pay for this mischief!
-
Bigsby rules! Period.

^ ratrod summed it up nicely although it would have been better without the american terminology :P
-
"Bigsby occupies a majestically dominant position in the field of tremolo/vibrato systems! Full stop." :)
-
there we go... a thoroughly british answer... ahhhhhhhhhh.... :D
-
Nah - Leo's original system kicks all others out of existence - so carve a great big whole in your guitar kids :)

RT could get great sounds out of a fence post - that guy is scarily good. I'm going to see him play in Newcastle on Thursday (3rd time).

The hole is greater than the sum of the parts! :)
-
Personally, I think that carving a hole in the back when you can stick a nice bigsby on the front is sheer madness!
Also, while it'll sound a bit ballsier and more telecasterish, it won't sound 100% like a telecaster. So much of a tele's tone is down to the simple bare bones construction and the unique bridge. It's to do with the coupling and the break angle I'm told, that and the lack of a gaping big hole in the back! :P
But it sounds like a really awesome idea either way, and that Avenger guitar looks awesome!

The thing about the whole was a bit of a joke :D
Of course Stetsbar make (expensive!) telecaster retrofit vibrato

A bigsby set for a tele is only $200.-

Those tele stetsbars look so clumsy...and clunky...and archaeic......and cool. 8)
