]I realized today that it's been over 10 years since i wrote a black metal song and I decided to do something about it!
It turned out something similar to black metal at least...
The guitar is an ash telecaster with a maple neck fitted with a Piledriver. That pickup is scary!
You really don't need a humbucker, it's super tight!
I found myself really digging the guitar tone so I decided post it here, not sure about how it really sounds since I only have access to regular stereo speakers at the moment.
No drums yet! And it's not a finished song music wise!
Edit: Full song with drums uploaded!
You high gainers out there, all you need is a tele and a Piledriver.

That sounded nice and mean :D Great playing. I wouldn't have thought it was a tele if I didn't know.
-
you are right. the piledriver is the best pickup in the world. Im getting one too, once i get myself a tele :)
-
Which has just happened!! :D
I just got myself another Parker :D Sold my old one when i needed cash for a drivers licence.

Piledrivers incoming :D

I want one.
-
sounds great, I like the song too - some nasty vocals added and you have a winner there, mwuhahahahahaha
-
nice :)
But The Sinner is the best 'humbucker' in the world - for me anyway!
-
Thank you!
It was a lot more fun to make a Black Metal song than I remembered. I might do it again! :D
Congrats on your new guitar Madsakre! It'll be a metal machine with some Piledrivers in it!
And yes, it needs vocals! Anyone?

Interested! Never done BM but I am sure I can manage it. :D
Got any lyrics you want in it or does a guy have free reign? If so, any concepts of lyrical content you want?
-
Haha cool!
I'm really bad at writing lyrics (got the name "Gates of Cadaver" from a "black metal band name generator" on the internet and thought it sounded cool, yet hilarous) so yeah, you'll have free reign but it would be cool if I could contribute with some suggestions if I have any. I don't care too much about lyrical content either, not too crazy about nazi stuff though. =)
My priority is finding rythmic balance, atmosphere and dynamics in the song so the vocal arrangements is more improtant to me than the lyrics.
It would be really cool if works out!
Do you have a recording (of your voice) I could listen to?
-
I do, but my "harsh" vocals would be more Black Metal than they are on the tracks, heh. I adapt for whatever kind of music I'm singing / screaming over. ;)

Cool!
So, go for it, let's see what happens!

My mate has my microphone at the mo but should be getting it back next week, will let you know. :)
-
Just made a real mix, let me know how it sounds!

Sounds fantastic! I'm actually picking my mic up this afternoon so can finally start work on the lyrics etc. Took me and my mate a while to find a time when we're both off, heh.

Even better. Still, the first riff is so much out of place :S The rest of the song is top notch. the first riff is just weird in the context

top class tone
top class track
top class playing.
6 6 6
ahahahaha

Thank you! =)

You think? Ouch!
I think it makes it more interesting but... I don't know... I mostly made it cause I had fun doing it!
Like I said in my first post, I haven't played or written any black metal (or any metal at all) for over ten years so what do I know... =)
-
Still dude, you're doing an amazing job :) It somehow reminds me of one of my fav bands, Deathspell Omega.
Listen to the "chorus" riff :)

Haha thanks!
I love Paracletus with Deathspell Omega! Now and then I check what's happening in "the scene" and I stumbled upon that album and was floored! Haven't checked out their other albums but perhaps I should.
And I see what you mean.
I've started working on a new black metal song. It's not as easy the second time! =) We'll see how it turns out.
I wrote and recorded "Gates of Cadaver" (hahaha) in one day and could barely move my right arm the next day, black metal is physically hard to play!
-
I want one.
One thing to add here: The other guitarist in my band has been using one of these in an old MIK Cort Telecaster for the past many gigs, and I $%&#ing LOVE that thing. It is so perfect for our sound it's just flat out ridiculous.

I disagree with this statement. I think it is a total kick ass riff. I like how the drums completely change the movement, using the same riff. I've been wanting to get a Telecaster for along time. This recording makes the desire over the top. Was going to get Warmoth to make what I wanted, since I prefer less bling, and a flatter fretboard radius.
Its an awesome sound you did.

I'm glad you like it!
My tele is a Warmoth as well. Best guitar I've owned and pretty much the only guitar I play due to it being so extremely versatile. The only thing I really don't like about it is the pickup switch being horisontal. Makes it a bit tricky to switch from bridge to neck fast. Thinking about getting a toggle switch instead but that would ruin the 50's aesthetics...
It's cool to have a guitar that looks exactly like a country guitar but sounds like a beast! =)

Its your guitar, function over form. Yeah, the country guitar from hell, with true single coils. I say do the 3 way toggle, make that play the way you want. Or just get better at flipping the horizontal.
