PhilKing brought his Pig-90 loaded Les Paul Jr by last night. Guitar and pickup both sounded monstrous. There is a deliciously nasty grind when you play slower licks, perfect 4th double stops sounded particularily grindful, pinch harmonics were really THICK sounding.
Amp was a Mesa Dual Rec 2x12 combo (12AT7s, EL34s, SS rectifier used) and an HBE Big D Overdrive.

Don't tell me you're beginning to fall for Les Pauls and P90's.
Did anyone record it?

I was going to film a quick video clip, but ... the strings were new and kept slipping out of tune, and I wasn't feeling particularily ambitious.

damn.. we could have blackmailed you with it

It sounds a bit like a racing driver excuse.
I'd love to hear a pig90 being put thru it's paces.
Any chance of clips in the future? Ben? Phil? Anyone?

I know you secretly loved playing the LP, you just don't want to admit it
Come over to the darkside

do you strecth your strings? it helps alot.

It really wasn't the strings slipping so much as the action being quite high which caused the guitar to go out of tune as you went up the neck. This was because I had to raise it for the Pig 90. I have now got some flat P-90 metal covers and will change it and bring the action down a lot. Then we can record some stuff.

Phil's original 1960 Les Paul Jr ... not the one with the Pig 90, but a different one.

HA!
got you!

I'm taking an SG Junior in next week, and the updated junior with the Pig-90. Perhaps I'll also take in the special and the 71 Goldtop - just to really get Ben into P-90's and Gibsons

You devil.

So, the pig 90...Would it be absolutely ridiculous to replace my existing bkp-90 bridge pickup on my eggle wave with one? Would this cause horrible, horrible things to happen with the hollow body?
-
:D Bugger !! i was looking forward to a clip as well !

Yeah, but you should also remember after the mid-sixties P-90s on SG Juniors were mounted to the scratch plate somehow.

My SG junior is a 64, pickup is still in the wood just like on the LP's. The Special and the Goldtop have soapbars, so they just have screws into the body.
