Title: The Mule pickup cover loose
Post by: DominoDoggy on January 22, 2012, 01:25:00 PM
As the subject suggests, I have a guitar with BKP "The Mule" humbuckers. One of the pickups (bridge) has the cover loose. The solder is broken, and the cover vibrates when I play. I can't hear it in the amplified sound, but I can hear it unplugged. What is the typical repair process? I am hesitant to try to resolder the cover on because of the fragile wiring in the pickup. My 40 watt soldering iron would barely melt the solder, and I did not want to risk heating it for too long.

Please advise. Thank you.

EDIT: On further review, perhaps this should have been posted in the 'tech' subforum. My apologies.

The solution is to resolder the cover - although you may need a largish iron and good solder

I think that it may also warrant being re -dipped in wax unless it was an unpotted Mule

Think you could send it back to BKP and have them do it if you felt that it should be done 'properly'
Or a repair shop like ours that also has wax dip facility
