Title: Cack. One nicely ding'd Private Stock :0(
Post by: Twinfan on January 23, 2012, 09:25:45 AM
Whoops.  First gig, nicely polished guitar, didn't quite slot into the stand properly, one dropped PRS Private Stock.  They say the first one's the worst, and I did wince (quite) a bit, but it's all in the name of rock n' roll.....

Relic'd Private Stock? Worth even more surely? ;)

Oof though. Well you've done it now: it's probably better to ding it early than nurse it for years and ding it eventually anyway. Every ding tells a story.

At least it's on the back at the bottom, not nice but at least you picked a good place.....

Ooof!

Which one is this? Green or Blue (I know the names of the colours are probably more fancy than that!)

That's expensive mate.
Now you will need 2 more. One perfect and one relic. It's the only way to restore harmony

I think you need to get a backup (for the backup) pretty quickly  :)

lmao, Dave-baiting in full flow

I'll have to post pix of the 'dings' on my Les Paul some time - it could turn into quite a long thread, ha ha.

That's a bummer but it's bound to happen at some point. Good job it wasn't that old SG or Pearly, I'm sure it would have been worse. So does it sound much different to the faded ME? As nice as the PS's are, those ME's just knock me out.

I remember, years ago, dinging  my Strat and being mortified.Years later, I look at that first ding and get all nostalgic. Of course there are tones of others to join the original plus paint wearing away in all the "right" places. I collected a tiny ding on my Gibson and went into a depression for days even after I was able to polish a bit of it out.

It sounds better than the ME to my ears.  I love these PS Sig Ltds  :D

if it fell off a stand that probably counts as getting off pretty lightly. I'd be relieved more than anything. :)

I can see the pics now.  It's a proper chunk isn't it?  You couldn't even spot-repair the finish.

Ouch!  :x

Too bad man. But anyway, now there's no reason not to rock it on stage.

Not the best photo in the world (or guitarist/t-shirt for that matter!) but a quick pic for Fernando to show the PS did in fact get out for a gig...

ooh i like the colour of that one (as i've said before)

but haven't you ever been told you aren't supposed to match black and navy?

EDIT: serious question, though- are you not scared of your stuff getting nicked? I don't have as nice gear as you (nice enough i don't want it to be nicked, though), and if i ever did gig i could see myself having to buy cheaper stuff to gig with... which seems crazy

I keep a VERY close eye on it, and it's insured.  No point having it if you're not going to use it.

I have my best guitars insured. I think if they get nicked, what the hell, i'd just have an excuse to go shopping

yeah. i guess that's the thing. :)

i'm guessing you need different/better insurance for gigging?

I have a specific music policy for the Private Stocks due to their value, everything else is on my home insurance.

ah ok, thanks

i'm guessing that covers gigging, too?

i mean home insurance should cover stuff within your house, but if you take it out to a gig it's probably not (?) covered any more
