Hi guys, I got this message the other day from a friend of mine who I play an online game with. He knew I was into guitars etc, so he sent me a message about his problem...
"hey i kinda started playing guitar recently and i bought a guitar/amp. For some reason lately if i try to play pinch harmonics it fades out to no sound and occasionally if i bump a string it fuzzes to nothing and makes a snapping noise.
It did work fine when i first bought it but i cant figure out whats wrong.
I'm using a Behringer LX210 V-ampire modeling amp and a Peavey odyssey Guitar.
I tried using lots of gain/treble diferent amp models all for the same result any big of help would be great thanks!"
I told him that it could be the wiring inside the axe, as I've had this before and it was a dodgy solder, but are there any other things it could be? I did think "Behringer... *cringe*", but it does sound more like a guitar problem. I will not rule out the amp, though, of course...being Behringer and all. ^_^

What happens if he plays unplugged? it kinda sounds like he's got his action too low and is using too hard of an pick attack causing the string to smack the frets.

That's a very good point... Will ask!

check that he's not using his neck pickup for it - many harmonics dont sound well except using bridge p-up
