Any suggestions for a really nice tone in an ash stratocaster with an ebony board/maple neck.

I have a VHII in a similar Strat that I love. The only difference is that mine has a maple fingerboard instead of ebony. Sounds terrific.

An Emerald or Abraxas may be your thing. Or if you're talking single coils, you could go with a Sinner bridge with Trilogy neck and middle.

strictly HSH combination.. Im going for the Irish Tour in the middle.. no doubht about that the VHII's seem to be really appealing since van halens tone is such a hallmark.
