Title: BKP Jaguar Pickups in new Johnny Mar Sig
Post by: araT on February 07, 2012, 05:17:44 PM
Any plans to sell those pickups you've been making for the new Johnny Marr sig. Jag Fender's just started selling?? I know I'm not the only one who's been dying for you to start making/selling Jag pickups!

Rock on,
T.

No, not JMs personal Jag, Fender have made a JM signature model which come pre-loaded with custom BKPs (See here: http://www.fender.com/en-DE/products/johnnymarrjaguar/), I wonder if BKP will be selling those pickups now that they have to produce them in bulk anyway.

I would really REALLY love to see BKP start selling Jag pickups. I'm dying to put BKPs in my Jag, but don't want to have to buy a new Jag just to achieve that.

I may be wrong, but I'd guess we won't be seeing Jag or Jazzmaster pickups in the BKP range because there simply wouldn't be sufficient demand to justify the tooling costs (I'm assuming Fender are supplying some of the materials for the Johnny Marr model, rather than BKP making everything from scratch in-house).

As an alternative, you might be able to get your Fender Jag pickups rewound by BKP?

Hasn't it been stated that BKP doesn't do rewinds anymore due to lack of time or am I totally off here? I might be and don't intent to spreading misinformation.

I think you're right - this is what it now says on the "Rewinds" page:

Quote
All Bare Knuckle vintage rewinds and modifications are carried out using the highest quality original materials. All rewinds include fitting of new hook up cable where required and are wax potted where appropriate. Please note we will only rewind or repair old pickups that no longer work. We do not offer this service for the re-voicing of new working pickups or conversion of another make of pickup into a Bare Knuckle model.

I really like the look and sound of the JM Jag but that price tag is way too steep IMO. Im sure there would have been some custom tooling involved but it does still seem just a tad too much!

That's interesting, better keep hold of my BKP rewound Jaguar pickups then!
