All I have to say is - SOO GOOD!
Gotta learn that one sometime
-
That does sound cool. I wonder what his Mum said when she saw those tattoos.
-
I love his outfit.
odd style that guy has - i really like it. His tone is rather terrible however - not so much there, but definately on the albums. Can't really do behind the nut bends with a locking nut :(
-
When I heard this guy was doing a shred type album I was excited, I don't really like Mansson or anything like that but that guy got a reputation of being a really good guitarist. A friend lend me some album and I wasn't overly impressed at all :? So yea there's some very good country style shreding (it's where this guy shine) but most of it was unimpressive standard metal indus with a litlle shredding over.
Don't get me wrong, he's good but not original and I'm sure he can do better :!:
-
he's been playing with Rob Zombie recently and has another band as well (name escapes me at this time). i much prefered his tone when he was in MM's band - love that dirty fuzz sound.
-
There's more to the man than just MM. His new signature guitar has a headstock that was specially designed for behind the nut bending. It's a cool technique, it sounds a lot like a B-bender.
How does he get that twang from a humbucker?
-

He's the only guy i've ever heard play shred chicken picken'. I really thought that Country/Metal was a pretty original idea, and he's using some very different techniques to most players of similar genres!

Yep!
He has a new album out now aswell, not Vertigo, its somethin else, might buy it sometime.

see stuff like that reminds me that pursuit of simple speed is quite pointless - there will always be someone faster than you, always (even if it is a 12 year old :( ). So in the end, its important to be as good as you can, not as fast.
There was a time when I'd see a video like that and it would make me question my abilities, but really, these days I don't care for that kind of playing, I don't enjoy it, I think it's quite aimless so I don't let it bother me. As I say, just my opinion - I'm sure other people like pop-punk-Pachelbel
-
yer ive seen that video before cause i was looking for tabs for that classical song for a laugh lol.... pretty stupid actually how someone could have that much spare time... i kind of feel really jealous but really sorry for him... basically i completely agree wth willo...
also i think extreme speed is a bit of a novelty and it would just get boring as most really fast stuff sounds the same.... not that i have anything against fast/thrash or anything but the insanely fast stuff is just pointless...
heres another guy doing the same thing... i think it might be some even faster stuff in some places lol...

I quite liked that video - those who know me know i HATE speed-shred, but i thought the actual melody of that tune was pretty good, and i liked the chorus how it kinda merged like power-punk with classical music. Wish i could play it.
-
Well he was indeed fast but unlike a lot of players, it was melodic. He obviously does have the time to play. It was rather like watching my son when he learned piano- by the age of 14 he was superb and it fair took my breath away.
-
beatle get some clips of him on here! :P :D
-
:D Come on guys be reasonable !
OK so it fast playing in some parts but certainly not all of it. He use`s all of the fret board very well & he`s actually playing a proper tune not just noodeling aimlessly !
Personnaly i thought it was great. It sounded like FUN

Yeah I didnt think it was stupid shred, I thought it sounded pretty good, seemed to be getting a good crunchy power metal tone aswell! It reminds me of Dragonforce

I wasn't having a go! I just was remembering a time when I would have been severely daunted by the fact someone younger than me could play faster than me - know I don't really care. As long as what you are doing is emotionally valid to you, it doesn't matter if its 16 notes a second or 1 note every 16 seconds...and if that kid enjoys his music, then hats off to him! That's all music should be about! :)
Incidentally, regarding the music, I would rather just listen to straight Pachelbel...I still have major issues regarding high gain guitarists 'going classical'!
-
Sambo, whilst I would love to put him on here it has nothing really to do with guitar or BKPs but thanks for the thought but he has recorded some fine stuff and some of them have great guitar bits on them courtesy of Mike Casswell if anyone has heard of him - amazing player and long term mate.
Willo has a point- it was not something I would listen to other than out of curiosity and cannot, in all honesty, imagine buying but I have great respect for the effort that the lad put in and his affinity for guitar .
-
wow hes done recordings!!! could you send one of them to me maybe?? im not really sure why im so interested lol... probably cause i have mates that play piano....
-
I can do that Sambo- his stuff at the time was commercial ( that is until he got fed up with having to play the game and consigned himself to obscurity :) ) so you may not like it. If so then I can email MP3s to you but the files are big even after being zipped. He has been living in USA for nearly a year and hasn't been able to do anything due to various circs but is hoping to get gigging again soon. He will look for a small US label then. perhaps you can pm your email address.

You not heard Runaway Train by Steve Morse (it's on his Cost To Coast album)? Some great chicken shreddin' there. :)

Nope i havent heard but i'll be sure to have a listen when i get back home - thanks!

Well, I'm 15 and I play piano! Does anyone want clips of me??? :( :( :( :(
Everyone should learn piano, it helps heaps with guitar.
I pretty much only play jazz nowadays, Art Tatum/Oscar Peterson type stuff, so I can't really play much classical without getting bored to pieces (Let's face it, classical piano just isn't that much fun).
But i'm interested to know, 38th, what type of music does your son play?
Oh, and Steve Morse = God
Check out Buckethead's 'Hog Bitch Stomp' for chicken pickin' shred.
YEEHAA!
-
Greg Koch's tuition video Guitar Gristle is a great place to learn all those country techniques - there is a great bit on behind the nut bends.
-
Muzzz, my son plays jazzy blues type stuff. He used to raid my cd collection and one day heard Steely Dan and made it his mission to learn all their stuff .He had a band here in UK before he moved to USA and one of the songs they used to do was Steely Dan's "Peg". His strength was in his voice though-which was just fantastic.
-
That does sound cool. I wonder what his Mum said when she saw those tattoos.
Maybe, "yes dear, I love Horiyoshi III designs too, but could you not have got somebody good to tatto them?"
-
Zakk Wylde chicken picks as well.
-
Oh, and check out the video compilation 'Guitars SUCK'.
It's just random clips of awesome guitarists and it's got Guthrie Govan doing some awesome country shred.
And check out 'The Bash' by the dregs
-
this stuff is amazing
never saw a guitarist play something like this
his solo albums are also creative and full of rich melodies
definitely a great piece of rock guitar

His mum said: "John I got the ink gun ready, you want more flames or or skulls this time around.

This is part of the reason that John 5 manages to get tons of exposure without being outstandingly talented in any one area. Because country has a very specific fanbase with very little crossover, people don't realise that the technical standards in country and bluegrass are huge (you should really check out the shred mandolin on Nicklecreek's stuff), and there are tons of players doing fast, technically challenging and melodic pieces using these techniques. John 5 is just selling them to the rock community as something new.
-
Thks Sifu Ben :D
I'm not a country guy to be honest but, yeah, i guess there's some good stuff and breathtaking techinques in that style.
the fact that J5 did that crossover is really awesome because it get rid of all that old " south flag" sounds to go electric.
I'll look forward to hear some new material soon.
His new album will be out in April, can't wait :P
