This was a major impulse buy, but I think it's one I won't be regretting :D
-
This thread makes me want to buy a strat.
-
Beauty! What pickup configuration?
-
I'm going with 2 p90s. I know it's not traditional, but I already have SSS and HSS Strats and I was looking to add one with p90s. I'm thinking Nantucket neck, Supermassive bridge.
-
Think will be awesome! Specially if you get with cream covers... Black covers would be to dark looking guitar I *think*
-
Yeah I'm not so sure yet about the covers. I'm going to wait until I can see it in person to decide I think

You can never have too many Strats
-
Nice! :D They have some beautiful korina bodies on the Warmoth site, I love the ones with orange patterns like this one.
Only thing which puts me off is the dilemma of finding a neck to match!
-
Yeah now I'm going to obsess over that for the next few days and not actually have time to play guitar.
I'm thinking ebony over wenge, in fact there's a particularly nice one in the showcase for not too much money. The only thing is that it has mother of pearl inlays. If I were to get inlays, it would be those, but I think that with a body as nice as this one, the fretboard should be clean. What do you think, ebony over wenge with no inlays?
Oh and here's the showcase neck:

What ever you decide, go with no inlays. It just looks a lot smother in my opinion.
That is a really nice piece there. You might want to ask Tim about pickups for the Limba. It is similar to mahogany, that it is really bass filled. I needed a high mid profile to pull it out of its density.
Still, that is a killer piece.
I would love to see pictures of it assembled.
Warmoth is going to make a Tele for me.

A Strat with P90's (BKP91's to be precise) you say...

That's a nice piece of wood - I've been looking at Warmoth recently, and the Korinas are the bodies that attract me the most.
-
when you get it have a look for the little bug holes that have caused the orange streaks.
they are not a problem at all, but that is what causes the orange
-
That looks like a really nice piece of wood and I'm sure it's going to be one heck of a guitar with two p90s.

See, now here's the problem!
If it was me, I'd want a korina neck - ideally with some more orange streaks on the headstock - to match the look of the body. Ebony yes (I think....), but not keen on the wenge, I think it's too dark next to the body. I see where you're coming from with the white pearl dots, I don't think they match the golden tones of the korina.
Combining different woods is so tricky - if the different colour combinations clash or are just a bit off, I really can't live with it!

Ok now you're just tying to freak me out :o
I'm just kidding, that's actually really interesting. I'll let you know what I find
-
warmoth will have filled them - but you can usually find what looks like a small nail hole at one end of the streaks
its a pretty amazing colour change considering its just a little bug
-
That's a stunner! Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.... should be great.

I think that you've just successfully explained away all the parts under your bed...

You may well be right.....

Sweet, merciful mother of our Lord Jesus Christ... If that guitar sounds even 10% as gorgeous as that piece of wood looks, then... Phwoaar!
-
That is a stunning body. Personally, I'd prefer it without the orange streaks - but they do look good.
And it's interesting hearing how they get there - make sure they bugs are all gone before you bring it indoors, your missus won't want them migrating to the woodwork in the house!!
-
that body will look really nice with some P90s.. maybe cream or chrome ones?
-
Love those orangey streaks on the body!

i dont think they are like wood worm that feeds on dry wood... just one of the various insects that like to eat there way through live trees. these trees just seem to react in a rather extravagant way. The bugs wont still be in there ;)
anyway, if you want to see bug eaten

Part of the reason I like it is because it looks like war paint to me
Also, I think a guitar like this takes precedence over any possible damage to the walls PDT_006

Yeah that's going to be a tough call. I'm nearly 100% sure the hardware is all going to be chrome, but I'm not so sure about the pickups. I think I might go chrome, and save the cream ones for a tobacco burst guitar down the line
-
I'm not usually in to them, but I'd consider wooden covers for that beast.
Love it BTW
-
Magnificent piece of wood. The covers should not distract the eye from the grain: black covers may be the best for this beauty.

+1
Can't go wrong with Black.
-
How have I missed this thread? What a great looking guitar that will be when finished. I look forward to seeing the outcome.
-
Ok so the guitar has been shipped and will arrive late next week. Thanks everybody for all the great input and advice, although I'm pretty sure every color of P90 cover was suggested at least once
I'll be sure to take some pictures when it arrives! Cheers
-
Congrats on your strat body. Looks really really cool. Hope you enjoy it when it arrives. :D
