Title: stormy mondays and overdrive

how does yours sound with OD......and would it be OK to go ahead anyway and have them wax dipped,just in case?

i've got a wax potted stormy monday in the neck of my 335. it handles overdrive nicely and with clarity on low and higher gain settings. (southern rock and blues mainly)
couldn't comment on un-potted ones though, but if you are gonna be driving them hard it might pay to go potted.

I've asked tim once, if would have problem with a Mule unpotted, in a marshall jmp master volume on max, pre amp at 6. He said i will have no problem, cuz he uses the same pickup and the same amp.

SM is a little brighter, but if won't use much more gain than that, i don't think is gonna be a problem.

I've a stormy neck in a LP.Great overdriven.Great clean & in between.Mines potted.It's quite bright.
Search for 'screaming  stormy monday' in players section for overdriven demo.

I have a set of SMs in an SG. They are amazing when overdriven. They also clean up beautifully with a bit of the volume rolled off. Can't recommend them enough.

I got a Stormy bridge in a strat and it sounds great with some overdrive. It splits nice as well. In this thread you can hear a short clip of it in series and split.

I don't have SM's, but Mules and they handle drive very well and it would be awkward if the SM's couldn't. Any BKP takes drive well, with great clarity, noteseparation and articulation.

They're brilliant overdriven because of their depth and warmth - you get a great range of harmonics that are great for blues and classic rock. If you go for relatively low gain tones it's sounds at its best in my opinion, but I've also gigged them through a very overdriven Mesa Boogie and there's no problem whatsoever with feedback or microphonics.  Mostly I've had lots of compliments about how great my tone is. 

The Mule is also great but has a more solid, strong overdrive - it will handle pretty much any rock situation. That said, if you experiment with your amp settings (particularly mids vs. bass) when using Mules you can also get warmth and woodiness that sound very soulful. 

The upshot is, you cannot go wrong with either pickup. The quality is so high that you're going to sound great whichever you choose.
