Title: NPRSD. Yes, PRS Day
Post by: Stevepage on February 21, 2012, 06:56:51 PM
I went out on a mission today to look for a new guitar. I haven't bought one in over a year and I had a good reason to buy one. Off I went to Coda Music and saw a few things including those new Ibanez S anniversary guitars. I was tempted to go with the bright green but the fret work wasn't great (sharp fret ends).

So I made my way to Giggear in Harlow. First I tried out a Schecter Omen 8 string which was pretty cool. For £349 it was well worth the money. The lows weren't too muddy and the fretwork was pretty good.

I also tried out a Ibanez S570 which was superb but I found a slightly high fret which put me off.

Then I spotted a PRS Singlecut Trem in Natural Satin with P90's. I had to have a go so I plugged it in to a JVM205 and I was sold. Compared to my CE22 it's a touch more resonant and a bit heavier which I really like. I bought it on finance so I didn't hurt the wallet too much and surprisingly I really like the P90's. I can quite easily play heavy stuff on it as well as get the really cool bluesy tones.

I'll post pictures up as soon as my phone charges up.

The PRS Standard Satins' are AMAZING guitars, the last 2 times i went to record i used the producers standard satin24 and it just felt as high quality as all of PRS' guitars but with an instant worn in feel.

I want one, or at least the money set aside to pounce should i find one

Oh, that's cool!  8)

I bought a Singlecut Standard Satin (birds, buckers, hardtail) last year, but that particular one didn't quite "do it" for me - plus the dealer sold it as new but there were some big scratches on the edge of the body which they tried to blame on the distributors.  So it went back after a couple of days.

Oh that looks great, really really nice. The dark wood and the P90s really work: stops it looking so much like a Les Paul but a bit wrong, which is what the single cuts usually look like to me. Yup, I like that.

Thanks guys. I've just given this a much needed set up and some new strings (it came with 12's which were killing my finger tips). This one is so resonant that even my fiance said that it reminded her of an acoustic guitar. There's such an incredible amount of natural sustain too. I couldn't be happier.

Oh and I really like the P90's, they're incredibly versatile. They even do metal pretty well.

That's a very nice guitar indeed. I seem to like the trem PRSi best. My Custom has one. The best CU22 I played had one, so did the best Single Cut.

Enjoy!

Here's a short recording of the guitar into a Toneport GX. Reading that last sentence you'd think it would sound horrid but I think you'll be surprised.

Real mean and evil. I love the lead tone. It's really a great metal lead. And congrats on your NGD  :D

I like that, solid tone, though it's difficult to hear the guitars nature with so much gain.
