I got myself a mandolin last summer as some of you may know, its a bugga of an instrument to get into, but I'm just about making some headway now. Here's a little ditty...

Nicely done! Mandolin was the first instrument I learned to play, my dad has a 100 year old mandolin that belonged to his grandfather and I can remember plunking around on that when I was 5 or 6 years old. I even got it restored to playing condition and recorded with it a couple of times ...

Impressive stuff gentlemen.
-
Sweet! Why do I fancy a scotch now?
-
cheers fellas, salute!
-
Yep - really enjoyed that - do like mandolins.
And Frank, after listening to Amen The Thunderbolt you caught me again on the Cliffs of Dover
-
How often do you see a mandolin player dressed in a Motörhead t-shirt? :P
Good stuff, Ian!

i would love to make a carved top f-style mandolin at some point - but for now i reckon this campfire style one will be nice alongside my banjolele and tenor uke
-
Banjolele, now that's a proper instrument. Goes well with beards, Arran sweaters and real ale.
-
Just been googling and found a mandolin identical to my dad's. It's a bit of an ecological disaster, even down to the ivory tuning peg knobs and the real tortoiseshell pickguard. No plastic in 1902, they sawed a tortoise up to make this.

That'll be a lovely little project Wez, video and photos are of course required if only to satisfy Fernando

If nothing died to make my instrument possible then I ain't happy, lmao.
Someone find me a tortoise, a hammer and a table saw
-
well my little 'project' turned up
gave it a clean, put some strings on - i think its done!
ignore the clumsy playing - got to get used to holding it, and i was trying to get a quick clip whilst wife and baby slept

pretty happy for less than £40 all in

Thanks Wez, I now have Mandolin GAS ! :?
-
They're addictive little things eh - I'm after a cheap one with a soundhole in the middle of the board, they have a more 'open' tone than the boxier F-holed ones (in my limited experience).

I think I am catching the bug too. I had a play on one some months back-spark has been lit methinks.
