Title: Humbucker size P-90 neck with Painkiller? Which would be for a Killer Combo?

Hello every one,

 I'm using a Les Paul with an Ebony freeboard.  Its got a set of PK, and I'm actually really digging the bridge, but the neck isn't quite my flavor.  Before that I had a Duncan Alnico II Pro, with sounded pretty awesome.   
 
 I'm looking for another humbucker neck pickup for a totally wicked and not so ofter heard combo.  I'm considering using the Alnico II pro again, or something similar. 

What would be a humbucker size P-90 that would totally kick back side with a PK bridge?

Also, I'm not looking for anything that overkill on the bass.  I would like it to be really defined, and crisp.

A Stockholm neck seems like the best choice if you look at what style the pickup suits, but it might be too bass heavy for the PK. Maybe the MQ neck could work, but it might be underpowered. I think Matt Bellamy uses a nalbomb bridge with a MQ neck or the Manson equivalent of these just to say that the MQ neck can successfully be paired with a high output pickup.

True. It think the voicing makes a difference too. Lower output with high midrange peak cuts usually better trough mix. Our ears tell us its loud bec of the frequencies we hear. I don't know how the Stockholm-neck is voiced though. Considering the output it seems a good partner for the Painkiller.

I'd recommend the Stockholm here. The Mississippi Queen could probably match up with a Painkiller in output (remember that a P90 has two humbucker-sized magnets driving a single coil where a humbucker has just the one powering both coils - hence why P90s kick much harder than you might expect from their DC resistance!), but I feel the Stockholm's more modern voicing would make for a more cohesive sound when switching from bridge to neck.

I very happy with a MQ neck with a Holy Diver in a les paul studio.

My MQ is rw and can match very well the HD for out of phase tones. If output was so different, out of phase would be compromised, but it's not.

Thanks folks, I think I will look into the Stockholm deeply.  I appreciate the input.  And Nolly, good to see you made home in one piece.  Must have been pretty fun being out on the road.
