Since this is an English forum I take that all you Englishmen are neck deep in supporting your local (or non local) football club. So which one is it?
Since I live in Denmark there really isn't much to support on the European scala. I support/side with thwe local club from the town where I was born, but they only in the second best league. Because of the lack of quility in Danish football in general I'm interested in the European leagues - mostly Premier League and La Liga.
My alltime favourite is Barcelona and I have recently developed a fondness for Tottenham.
I'm by no measure a true fan as my sidings seem to change from time to time, but my sidings aren't based on which team wins the most.
As we all have clubs we like there's, I'm tempted to say of course, blubs we dislike. I have antipathy for the following clubs: Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan, FC Copenhagen and Broendby - the last two being Danish teams.
So where do you stand?

Arsenal!!! :ctf2:
-
Bronby
errrr actually Arsenal too!!!!!!
-
Hawkwell Athletic Under 10 Pumas.
-
Football? What's that????
-
Everton
But I no longer waste time on watching it as I can't stand the media hype and I hate that fact that the games are no longer all on at 3pm on a saturday.
The premier league has ruined it for me.

What's all this English stuff? Some of us are Scottish, Irish and Welsh you know!

Agreed. I just can't get excited about multi millionaires chasing a ball around and acting like they are some sort of god. What used to be a proper working class sport is now one full of prima donnas who don't understand real everyday values.

And before you start chanting glory hunter, yes I have been a season ticket holder, yes I went to away matches, YES I AM FROM MANCHESTER, yes my grandfather used to watch them with his father when they were still called Newton Heath LYR.

Stoke City - it's where I'm from and where my surname comes from too so I'm stick with 'em.

I don't live there, but it's where I was born and grew up. Nice to be in the top flight for the first time in 30 years, just hope we can stay there!

Sorry to stomp on your feelings, Shobet. That wasn't intentional. When you're not fra GB or whatever I should call it, it's easy to make the mistake where you look at the islands as a whole.

Dunfermline. I quite want to see us demoted to the 1st Division again (which we almost certainly will be this season) so we're back in a competitive league. The SPL is boring as all hell. Better off in Scottish lower league football where it's a total lottery.

Football, pah! I don't recognise any sport that doesn't require the internal combustion engine.

Phew - what a relief - thought I was the only guy in the country who felt like that. A few years ago a salesman called trying to sell me a Sky package and bleated on how much football I would be able to watch. I told him however much the package cost I would pay double if they would completely take all football off the tele.
-
Man United since about 1984. One of my first memories of MUFC is the 1985 FA cup parade which I got taken to.
Man United are my nearest big football club, City were nearer but I did say big club. Stockport are even nearer but I did say Football :D
I don't care about footballer's antics in the slightest, there's worse things going on in society than footballers being spoilt or diving. It's just good entertainment for me. Yes its changed but if you stood in Old Trafford in the mid 80's watching header after header and long balls hoofed in to the opposition half constantly, in comparison, today the football is more skillful and exciting.
In the world of meaningless celebrity culture, at least footballers can do something useful.
-

That's fair enough. Do you like any sports?
I like all sports pretty much....
-
I can't really say I support anyone in particular. I kind of like Spurs, Exeter and AFC Wimbledon. But yeah, not particular passionate about it.

I had no great interest in football for a long time, but I work with a couple of sports fanatics and over the years I've gradually gotten into it. Now I follow the English leagues pretty closely and I'll watch games on TV (if there's nothing better to do) but I don't actually go to games. And I still can't claim any understanding of formations or tactics!
They haven't broken me down on other sports, though - they drive me crazy with endless discussions about horse racing, cricket, golf.... even the bloody Tour de France! One guy even has "his" American football and baseball teams which he follows - American sports bore me to tears.
The sports I've always liked are athletics and snooker. And many years ago, I used to like the boxing on Sportsnight with Harry Carpenter. Now it's only on Sky channels which I don't have.

I am not really interested in football but my Mum is a keen Spurs fan so I kinda like it if they do OK. My Dad was a West Ham fan and so both of those teams kinda get my vote as it were. I am more into Motorsport though won't be watching much F1 anymore as I don't have and won't buy Sky F1 or whatever its called. Mrs 38th is highly delighted that Grand Prix weekends will no longer mean my being glued to the TV.

That's an interesting mix. Lots of rivalry between some of the 'fans'.
FWIW I am a West Ham fan but over the years have grown less interested in football. Not helped by the fact that West Ham are forever in turmoil - they do seem to be getting their act together lately though, both on and off the field.
Maybe one day I'll get back into it again but to be honest I'd rather be spending my time with my kids, listening to music and playing guitar.
-
I would rather be "that man" you see in women's clothes shops than have anything to do with football but if forced I would support S####!!horpe United

Pretty much the same as me.
F1 took ahold in the mid 1970s and I have followed ever since - strangely enough I still feel more love for the 70s F1 when there was less high tech stuff going on (ground effects/skirts aside)
-

Well 10 will be on live on the BBC, the other 10 will be highlights only on the BBC.
So tell Mrs 38th she only has to put up with it for 10 weekends this year!
I'm a bit gutted it's not all on the BBC as I don't have sky and can't justify the additional bill but at least we'll get to see some.

-
I know what you mean Tom but I took the whole thing to mean Bernie/BBC/Sky were trying to tell me that they think I should spend more time with Mrs 38th. Whilst I'd loved to have seen Kimi Raikkonen back I've made the decision that if I am around when the live races are on I might watch but I am not going to plan my weekend around it anymore and I am not into "highlights"-it just isn't the same. I used to love the BBC coverage and the whole ritual of settling down for the pre race, race and post race stuff but anything less will be a disappointment. I have been spoiled I realise .I am sure the Sky coverage will be spectacular but will they get the audiences that the BBC achieved ? If not I suspect they'll either lose interest or scale down their coverage, particularly if they don't get the take up that they were counting on. I can afford it but I'd rather spend my money on other things. Sadly it could be the beginning of a decline of interest in F1 in the UK-one of the few sports that we were any good at but I suppose the money in the future will come from the emerging markets and F1 is all about money so I can understand the logic.
-
I do think that a lot of people will get put off of F1 by the ad breaks. I'm not sure if they will be going for ad breaks during the race or not - has Bernie insisted that they don't do this?
I used to watch F1 when it was all BBC and loved it. I grew up during the Prost/Mansell/Senna period and started to lose interest when Schumacher came in and won pretty much everything (although I remember getting angry with how he took Damon Hill out). I can't see it working on Sky as well as it did on BBC.

It was rubbish when it was on ITV for a couple of years.
I don't know why, but ITV sport coverage is never as good as BBC. I can't comment on Sky.

Aggree, and I absolutely refuse to give that knobber any money. So that's the death of F1 for me.

Yes but it just makes those free illegal internet streams all the sweeter!
But I agree, f&%k Sky. I'll take the kids to Oulton Park on the days it's on sky and we can watch some proper racing!

I've supported Spurs for over 40 years. My Dad used to take me there when I was around 3 or 4 I think the first time was. I live about 5 miles from the ground. My parents both grew up there too. I do get to go to a few games each season in the Park Lane upper tier. It's great over the Lane and I love it. I last went to the Newcastle game a few weeks back. It was 2'C so I took a hip flask with a 10 year old Highland Single Malt and got rather drunk :D

To be honest, I can take or leave football, by my eldest is getting in to it. I've been promising to take him to a match for the last 2 years, and I've finally got tickets to a local game this weekend.
Southend Utd vs Accrington Stanley!
Actually looking forward to it.

Barcelona por supuesto!!

Sounds like Messi was actually on form tonight. I know it doesn't happen often. :D

i think one of the main reasons i like spurs a bit is the arsenal rivalry. arsenal fans are often fairly obnoxious, and living around london its been nice this year not seeing quite so much of them around the pubs i drink in acting like c--k of the hill.
of course theres nice arsenal fans and obnoxious spurs fans, but overall i'm quite happy that the two clubs fortunes have switched around this year. lets hope it stays that way, looks like goons might be on a bit of a run.

Indeed. And then Adrian Chiles spoils it by making a tw@tty comment like "but would he be as good if he was playing for Stoke?". Total bell-end and an embarrassment to TV presenters.

Ha ha ha. What a comment. Of course Messi "gets better" because he's part of a team with some superb players, but I still think he would be a benefit to Stoke

UP THE MACKEMS...............dont support them like but we are getting better i'd just like to see all the North East teams in the Prem

I think we'd make room in the team for him. Messi and Crouch up front would be the ultimate little and large combination.

Talking of Rangers. My brother bet against them the other week in an 5 match accumulator, which also included betting against Portsmouth, who are also in trouble. Man C to win which was a dead cert. West Brom' to beat Chelsea and Arsenal to win. Those two came in late. It turned £5 into £1276. Result! :D
