Must be expensive as he is selling some of the family jewels, amps and the Esquire!
... another Private Stock?
Place your bets...
-
*whistles...says nothing*
-
Must be terrible to feel you're being watched...!
-
Might be a private stock... Def. something PRS :D
-
Is there a PRS type more exclusive or expensive than private stock PRS? If so, my money is on that.
-
A wild guess a set of Bare Knuckle P90's
-
There is the PRS Collection Series above Private Stock, £14k each for the two that have come to the UK so far.
I haven't bought either of them.

ooo - its a guessing game!!!!
you've ordered a PRS-style custom from Feline?
-
Much as I admire Jon's superb work, nothing of his has tempted me to open my wallet yet and I don't need anything really custom specced....

I actually bought a guitar over the weekend, which is prompting the Big Sale, but I did buy also buy a new amp a few weeks ago.
Hence the need to recoup as much cash as I can. My two PRS SE guitars will also be up for sale soon, the P90 one hasn't even arrived yet so it'll be straight out the door...

I might buy that, to go with my Chinese Zodiac sign....
Not sure I could lift it though. :?

They're crazy expensive, and rare as hens teeth.
Bloody ugly too!

not stopped you before :)
(though all your purchases have looked lovely... i like the dragon inlays though)
-
When are you lifting the veil so we can have a gander at your now aquisitions, Dave?
-
I may as well add them here I guess!
I bought a 65 Amps Empire when "bad man" PhillyQ egged me on into buying it in GuitarGuitar Epsom:
And last weekend I was offered a great deal on a guitar I've lusted after for about a year, but thought I a) couldn't afford it and b) wasn't a singlecut guy. Having recently discovered that PRS Singlecuts work so much better for me than Les Pauls that negative went out of the window, so when the price became "an offer I couldn't refuse" I did some quick calculations and snapped up the guitar in the middle below.
Afghan was right from his first post - it's a Private Stock Singlecut SC245 in gloss nitro McCarty Burst, with what I think is an amazing one piece blistered maple top and an incredibly rare pernambuco neck. This guitar absolutely sings vintage tones and I love it.
Here's The Tone TrinityTM

very nice :)

holy cr@p, that's a record even for you, surely?
-
Yep!
I bought the P90 at 11am, got the offer of the SC245 around 3:30pm - had I known, I obviously wouldn't have bought the second SE!
-
Nice amp Dave. I shall not condemn your moments of weakness- I have them on occasions too though not on the same scale.

I love how understated it is.
-
nice purchase on the 65Amps rig, they're real nice 8)
-
Cheers Ian - I'm well impressed with it. I need to take it to a rehearsal to try it with a bit more volume than a flat will allow! It sounded really good in the shop, and with a pedal in the flat it's top too :)
-
Very nice in deed. Lovely looking guitar. Congrats on the amp too. In truth I do not know much about that one will have to do a bit of searching on the web. Enjoy them. :D
-
Nice one Dave. I've got a little keyboard short cut set up that is a real time saver in moments like this. I just press 'ctrl, shift and £' and it pastes in "Nice one Dave"
I reckon I've saved loads of hours since setting it up :D
That amp looks great - I've heard loads of good things about them. I do seem to confuse them with 'divided by 13' amps though. Not that they look anything like them, must just be a numbers thing!
-
Mmm, do like 65Amps! The Soho is particularly tasty!!
-
Nice one Dave. I did have to type that though.
The finish on that single cut is gorgeous. :D
I've never known anyone get through so much gear! Are there still tones in your head that you haven't found yet Dave?
-
The Empire is a 6v6 powered amp that is designed to sound like old Marshalls. I've got to say it's a pretty interesting design and a great tone!
-
As a further time saving measure, maybe we could have a sticky called 'what has Twinfan bought this week'
If you can do a wee video of the 65 Amps rig I'd love to hear it, they have some badass tones.
-
Unfortunately for me, i do love all of your new stuff :(...Beautiful SC 245 !What are the specs? 57/08 pu's? Braz board ? Do you feel something specific about the Pernambuco neck? I've never tried a 65 Amp but i love 6V6's... 8) You very lucky :)! Braz,Sinker Mahog, and Pernambuco necks !
-
The SC245 has a pernambuco neck, old growth honduran rosewood and 57/08 pickups. It's a very sweet sounding old-LP-style tone. The neck rings like crazy. I timed the green Signature at 35 seconds of sustain and the SC245 at one minute :o
Johnny - no, there's nothing else left for me to try until Paul Smith comes up with something new. Which is good, as it gives time for my bank balance to recover! I've spent a stupid amount on gear recently, and I need to start sprucing up my house now instead.

How did you time /measure that? Want to do that to some of my axes too, but don´t know how to about it. Just by ear or feel, or rather record and see? Single string, chord or all open?
Also...my god that is a nice guitar. Looks divine.
No idea about the amp, but with your taste it probably is top stuff too.
I too am interrested about that neck too, if there is anything you noticed about it.
-
I timed it by resting the guitar on a chair so that the neck was free to vibrate, then plucked the bottom E and timed until I couldn't hear it through my Bogner XTC set at TV volume.
The neck is definitely doing something good, and not just the sustain part. It feels alive and the guitar really likes to feed back in a musical way, even at low volumes. There's definitely something going on with it.
I need to try it at a bit more volume really to see what it's like when everything's cooking...

It's the one amp of rheirs that IU have lusted after the most and being born in 1965 like 65Amps owners : Dan Boule and Peter Stroud it appeals to me on that level too.
here is the first clip of it i saw: http://youtu.be/X2sRYz4wBbk (http://youtu.be/X2sRYz4wBbk)
-
And I got cr@p off my Mrs for spending £340 on an LTD!
-
That's a great clip Jon, you need to have the amp with a reasonable amount of volume to get those tones. Hence the need for me to get out somewhere to crank it a bit!
-
I bought a 65 Amps Empire when "bad man" PhillyQ egged me on into buying it in GuitarGuitar Epsom:
i've seen a few references to this Epsom guitarguitar. Epsom is my hometown and I find it astonishing there is a big guitar shop there now! how times change.
-

I think you are missing a few PRS's! Don't you have 2 of the limited editions and a Chris Henderson, or I have I missed a sell off?
How do you like the pickups on the Limited? They look strange but get a good write up.
-

Oh that's it, blame me!
I only said it sounded better than the Bogner Goldfinger(?) And it definitely did!
gwEm, it is a bloody big shop! Check it out (they have the korina Fireman in there....!)

i'll have to go there next time i see my folks.
when i was growing up there, the town didn't have much to recommend it - now it has a proper guitar shop, a cinema and a half decent nightclub.. all since I left!
-
That is a great clip indeed.
It's a little known fact that Philly is a shareholder in 65 amps.
-
Congrats! 65 amps are no cheapo's, but they're supposed to be build like tanks and the Empire particularly appeals to me as a 6V6-fan.
-
It's a shame you are moving the blue tele on.
I'd be interested if you did it in red

Nope, still got the Henderson and the blue Sig too - I use them for gigs. I just grabbed a quick pic of my 3 "top guys".
The pickups are great - very versatile and fairly hot, modern-ish sounding. A "PAFs on steroids" vibe.
-
Bloody awesome Dave! '65 amps are pretty much the only amps i'm jonseying for at the minute. I've tried cr@p loads of amps in recent months and 65's are the only ones I'd drop my MK50 for! As for your guitars.... you're a crazy mofo but in a good way, I love em. I will say though, the ME STILL looks out of place with all the shiney ones so just be done with it and send it to me!
-
Ha ha - you wish Don! They seem to be getting really hard to come by, no-one is selling them. I haven't seen a stoptail Modern Eagle for sale anywhere in Europe in about 18 months.
It's a shame you are moving the blue tele on.
I'd be interested if you did it in red
That old chestnut eh? I can't see me parting with that unless I absolutely have to. If that was the case, all but the green Signature would go. If I could only have one, that would be it.

Very nice - but I prefer this edit - mainly because Tia Carrere gets all guitar techy

Nice amp Dave. i take it it does the vintage marshall and then on into more modern high gain sounds? seeing as you're shifting both the AFD and the Martamp? i must say, i'm a little surprised how the value has really not held on the AFD's, yours is the second i've seen go for around £700. i didn't buy as an investment, but it is a surprise.
the top on that SC is stunning! there's PRS CU24 with a one piece top in a shop near me that i've been trying to resist for months. i'm off to Australia now for a few weeks, so i needed money for that. but if it's still there when i come back, i might be putting myself in trouble :)
i'm sure that guitar and amp compliment each other very nicely. it seems the guitar is kind of what you wanted Pearly to be
-
Thanks blue :)
The 65 Empire doesn't really do the high gain thing that the AFD does, but the XTC has that covered. It certainly covers the 45/100 style tone though.
it seems the guitar is kind of what you wanted Pearly to be
That sums it up exactly!
-
Beautiful guitar. I'd be interested what you think of the 57/08s after you've had the guitar for a while. I kept the bridge 57/08 in my Studio for about 6 months - couldn't make up my mind whether I liked it or not, so at the moment I've got a Rebel Yell in there which I will try for a few weeks. (much prefer it so far, but may refit the 57/08).
-
I'm liking them so far - very PAF-like, bright enough without being too bright and nice and clear. No need to ever swap them for anything else.
-
That 65 amp sounds lovely. How much do these go for here 4G?
-

I thought the same when I got my Studio at first but ended up trying different pickup heights. I think the 59/09 would have been a better choice for the bridge of the Studio as it would have been a better match with the middle and neck Narrowfields.
Nice amp too!

Nah, full price for the head is/was £2399 and I got it in a sale for £1499.

absolute steal! nice one!
-
Cheers! There's some good deals around at the moment if you're fortunate enough to have a bit of cash.
-
yeah, i know, especially with euro and dollar exchange rates on ebay.. I got very lucky a few years back when it was nearly 2 dollars to the pound and picked up a stunner of a PRS from the states for very much less than the going rate.
All my money has been whittled away on pedals this year though, haven't seen any guitars take my fancy and i don't have room to have another amp :(

That's a good price. That is one impressive sounding amp! Those Townshend, Angus & Gibbons tones were bang on I thought. Blimey I'm feel

-
I still think you need a purple PRS to go with the blue and green ones, Dave.
P22, maybe?
-
Here in Holland the 65 Amps are very expensive. I like them, but not for 3000-3500 euro's.
-
P22? Acoustic stuff? You're having a larf aren't you Phil?
I can't see what adding anything else would give me to be honest:
* Sig #41 and Henderson SC (my gigging guitars)
* The Tone Trinity (superb modern and vintage humbucker tones)
* CS Tele (for the rare occasion I want to play singlecoils)
* JV Squier Strat (only stays because it was my first electric guitar)
I prefer humbuckers to singlecoils, so the only slight gap is mini-hums and maybe P90s. However, I'd never use them.
I guess I'll sit back and wait to see what Paul Smith comes up with. He's bound to find something new to tempt me!

We'll see...
What would be on your wishlist though? For me if a P90/soapbar DGT, especially if it was in black, turned up I might be in serious trouble. :)
-
Wishlist? I'm not sure to be honest. A Modern Eagle V with the 408 'Signature' pickups would be good, and likely the next guitar to have them, but it'll have the V12 not nitro finish (as the current ME Quattro does). I'd want nitro purely for the feel. It'd be too similar to the Private Stock Sigs to be worth buying too.
To be honest, the only thing that would grab me right now would be a used Modern Eagle 1 in Emerald Green. I've been after one for years but I don't think one made it to Europe, and there's only a handful in the US.

Fair enough! I don't like acoustic guitars - I find them extraordinarily uncomfortable to play - but I like the sound. A piezo has some appeal, although of course you'd need the right equipment to play it through.
Interesting point about the different pickup types, made me realise I've got nearly all of them covered (apart from more "niche" things like Jags, Jazzmasters and lipstick pickups). I like them all, but ultimately I come back to humbuckers and P-90s.
OK.... not tempted by something else with Narrowfields, maybe?
-
Nah, a bit too Stratty for me. Great sounding if you like that hot-Strat sound, but no good to me as I'm not into the Fender tone.
I think the PS Sigs and SC245 do all the tones I like. I got a great Bonamassa style tone through the 65 with the SC245 and a couple of pedals last night. Switching to the Sig gaves me 'my' tone and felt like home.
I just wish I could get some more volume in the flat!
-
Do the JV Squier get any play time at all, Dave, or has it ended its days as an item of sentimental value?
-
The latter. I treated it to a tart up a year or so ago and haven't touched it since. I'm just not a Fender guy!
-
I just wish I could get some more volume in the flat!
Come round mine mate - if my neighbour is up for it he'll let us use his 'sun room'. I've played my amp in there before at a pretty loud volume.
-
That could be the way to go I think mate.
Or we hire the Anvil?
-

Then what are you doing with that fine red CS tele? There's always room for one more post at seconds out
-
That's the only exception my friend. That Tele is just something special, and everyone needs a Fender even if you don't play them all the time ;)
-
That could be the way to go I think mate.
Or we hire the Anvil?
:D
That would be great. Maybe for a forum meet? I'm sure we could hire it on the cheap!

That's the one! I think it would be rather expensive though!
-
Still catching up. I made a joke elsewhere about Twinfan buying another guitar while I was away, but I did not realise he'd already decided to sell the one that I meant before it had even arrived!
Nice one :D. I'm not that fond of the PRS single-cut shape myself, but I can imagine how it might be more comfortable to play than a Les Paul. And if it's managed to do the job which Pearly couldn't, then that's great :D.
And that amp sounds interesting as well...
-
Not sure on the PRS's are pretty just not me....but the amp mmmmmmm
