Title: Can the warpig do tight rhythm and strong lead sounds?
Post by: subete on May 09, 2005, 04:01:26 PM
Proberly. But im making sure. You see i liked the Miricle man but it seems like its got bad cleans. And i like cleans. But i also like high gain tight distortion that makes every powerchord seem like a punch to the face, but leads sing and full of body. Maybe there's another pick up that would be more sutible but any help?

I really have had no problem running the Miracle Man on clean tones. It's in a maple guitar, tho, and may respond differently depending on the murkiness of the guitar's tone wood.

The clean sound of the Warpig is just about the best I ever heard coming out of a metal humbucker. I'm a rythm player mostly and I can assure you that it feels right at home doing powerchords, riffage etc. Nice and sweet on solo's, almost bluesy.

I've said it before: James Hetfield should have these

I wonder if Hetfield could play without anything to hide behind?
His tone has never been 'transparent' if you know what I mean. ;)

The Miracle Man calibrated set has an alnico V magnet in the neck pickup.  This gives a great clean blues sound if you want it.  The ceramic magnet is a monster, but with lots of harmonics and a ton of tone.  It can clean up nicely too.

The Warpigs are amazing.  I am just trying to think of a guitar to put them on!  I was thinking of my 87 PRS Standard, but I actually like the sound of it

Cheers
Phil

If I could choose one guitar that would work best with Warpigs it would have to be a flat black explorer

You can take a metal humbucker w/ 4-conductor cable and then split it/switch to parallel when cleans are needed.

Wouldn't Nailbombs go great with that guitar?

The JB/Jazz is the 'go-to' Duncan set, and I've always thought it sounded like cr.ap, LOL. The Demon is the only Duncan pup that holds any truck, imo.

Hmm why ya say that? i listnend to it and it seemed too pantera like. Almost tame, like the sounds spread out not tightly together.

I'm gonna be picking up a Dean Razorback soon (enough) which one of these 'collaborations' would work best with it, bridge-'Miracle Man', neck-'Crawler' or bridge-'Warpig', neck-'Crawler'.
Any other suggestions also welcome.

Those big reverse picked chords sound huge IMHO. I found the palm muted powerchords sounded nice and tight. The Warpig is a lot tighter and chunkier on palm muted powerchords.  So if that's what you want, the Warpig is The One. I was just exploring options. Both these pickups seem to be able to make chords stand out in a band situation but they do it in their own unique way.

Are you gonna get the rusty one? Please tell me you're gonna get the rusty one! That would look so cool with a Warpig in the bridge, it would need it's own fridge right next to the Aston Martin DB9, if you know what I mean.

You could trade that POS Dimebucker for a real Bill Lawrence XL500 if you want to keep that Pantera sound. (clips are in the players section)

Nah, can only just about afford the 'Dime Slime' one, and I'm thinking some cammo-covered BKPs would go great with this. Am I right or am I right?

Yes, you're right, Marooned Messiah

Oh, and Twilight, you were referring to the Dimebucker, I assume?

I knew it!

But I'm now considering changing the pickups round ('Nailbomb' and neck pickup to 'Razorback' and 'Miracle Man' and 'Crawler' to Epi Les Paul). Eh? EH?

Can the War Pig do a tight rythm sound?
Well, last time I played mine they sounded tight as a witch's cleft, ain't to pickup tighter, if you ask me.

Can it do a strong lead sound?
This beast's got some massive output. Leads sound massive and smooth on this thing. Like butter on fire, creamy but hot .

So yeah, what are you waiting for, get a War Pig (or a set of them!)
