Title: Is anyone using Holydivers in alder?
Post by: Toe-Knee on March 24, 2012, 02:49:38 PM
From various clips and a bit of influence from Brow im pretty set on a HD set for my swirl strat project whenever it gets finished :D

I would just like to get a bit of info from people who may be using the bridge & neck in alder.

The neck will be all maple if that helps.

I always swore against alnico pickups in the past but now that i dont really play much metal they seem like the ideal choice.

Im aiming for that 80s hair metal sound/.

I was always under the impression that a holy diver in alder was the shite lol. Especially for a 80's hair metal tone.

No personal experience though =x.

I had one in the bridge of my maple neck American fender strat. I'm sure that's an alder body. It sounded awesome. It was 80s metal personified. It sounded great clean too.

The HD sure will beef an alder or ash strat. I have the more vintage sounding Crawler in a swampashstrat and it certainly brings the necessary mids for serious (hard)rock, even hair metal with the right amp.
