Title: Black Korina Strat Work in Progress Photos
Post by: XxpapertigerxX on April 05, 2012, 07:39:55 AM
Ok, so these pictures don't do it any justice at all, but I thought it would be fun to hear your thoughts on it so far. It looks so much better in person, but it's the best I can do at the moment. I'll include the Warmoth photo for reference, which is much more realistic. The neck is wenge with black ebony and gold frets. (I can't recommend the wenge enough, it doesn't require a finish and is super smooth and fast feeling). The body is all black korina. The tuners are Gotoh 510 auto locking, and the bridge is a Wilkinson. The pickups are the only things not here yet, but they'll be Bare Knuckles of course  8). Blue note neck, Supermassive bridge. They'll be here in 2-3 weeks, which is already seriously testing my patience, and it's only been a day  :? Nothing has been installed yet though, so I'll have plenty to keep me busy.

That is going to be one very classy looking/feeling guitar :D

I wasn't convinced about the figuring in the korina when you posted it originally - very pretty, but not for me - BUT... with the hardware in place, I think I might have been wrong

I still struggle with "dark" looking strat headstocks but, if the neck feels as yummy as you say then I could probably put up with it...

And I don't usually go for gold hardware either. Somehow it works here, though...

So, all in all, even though it's got all these things that don't usually appeal to me, I'll give you my address so that you can send it to me for "testing" for a couple of years when it's finished - I won't charge!

VERY tasty :D

Looks great!  :D

I've often been tempted by the black korina bodies - especially when they have the nice orange streaks like this one - but wasn't quite sure how it would all come together visually.

It was definitely a good idea to have a rear-routed control cavity.  I don't think the streaky korina works with a scratchplate.

Looking good. I'm sure it's going to be a real monster of a strat!

String her up and tell us how she sounds acoustically!  :D
It looks great, btw. I bet that thing is going to wail.

Thanks for the positive feedback, everyone. The pickups should be here in about two weeks, but I won't be getting any building done before then. It's my first build, so my local guitar tech has offered to walk me through it, but he's been swamped with projects so he won't have time for a few weeks yet anyway.
