Hey guys! Mourning the loss of Jim Marshll right now, listening to all my favorite albums with Marshalls...basically every pre-90's album I have :D
But anyways, I'm getting a new LP, and I can get any finish I want. My specs as of right now are definitely a nitro burst, but I'm having trouble picking a color. I have an Iced Tea finish already, so I want this guitar to play off it nicely, complement it. I don't really like dark-ish bursts, so I want a light-ish color. I'm thinking of Frankensteining a couple of my favorite colors, which are Stanley burst, Lemon drop burst, a Slash AFD color, you get the picture. Help me decide please! Other opinions are welcome too!
-
I think LPs look good in most colours (apart from really bright red cherry sunbursts). But rather than the amber/yellow/red/brown shades of the usual sunbursts, I really like the cooler (as opposed to warmer) colours like blues, greens and purples.
Other than those, you can't go wrong with black and gold hardware (so long as it has an ebony board).
Don't suppose that helps much.
-
Yes I can't stand those bright red bursts. Was thinking about a tiger flame tribal red color, but decided against it. As nice as it looks, LPs just look soooooo much better in a regular burst.
-
Purple sparkle burst. If it doesn't exist, it should. Then again it might not exist because this reality might collapse due to the sheer awesomeness...
-
Honeyburst for me

-
That color is just AWESOME! :D :D :D
I'm leaning towards a Honeyburst type color cuz I like their fade in, goes to a lemon dropish color. Maybe a bit more of a red/orangish burst to it, but that's an awesome pic

I'm a traditionalist - something vintage-y always looks best to me...

WOW x) that is an AMAZING top and color! What color is that?
-
It's a PRS in McCarty Burst, but it's a darker McCarty Burst than I've had on other guitars. The crazy one-piece top may have taken the stain differently, or it could have been quite dark (old?) maple.
Here's another shot of it, plus the more usual McCarty Burst on my other singlecut:

I like the Gibson in pelham finish with the seethru knobs in the userssection.

...and add a lot of this for good measure:

Or indeed this, but it needs to be more sparkly and be a burst to black...

Check out Warmoth's LP Gallery. Great selection of ideas in there. May even give you an idea you've never thought of :)

For me honey burst was top of my list, but I would love to go for a dark blueburst. Here's mine

Mine. But I don't think a black custom can really be bettered.

I love my Tea burst Tokai but I've got to say I don't think any 1 colour is better than any others. I have a Black custom Epi which is lovely, a cherry burst & the tea burst. All are good, but some days I love the Desertburst
(http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg214/scaled.php?server=214&filename=gibsonlespaulstandard20.jpg&res=landing)
others days the RR style white does it for me:

In other words...get them all!

I've been trying to remember the name of this colour since yesterday - Bourbon Burst.
I like the way it goes into that really deep shade at the edges - there's almost a hint of purple, in the right light.

Honey burst all the way for me.
I'll never get a LP though.
-
Just to echo Ratrod's comment, I love that look too. But the '54 version with a wraparound bridge is even better.
And it is, if possible, even nicer again in black (couldn't find a good pic of a P-90 version)

black lp's need to be blacktops only - natural sides please

Yep - Blacktops are awesome!
-
Depends on what type of LP. Assuming just Gibson shapes (because I always think everything else looks rubbish - too pretty or too pointy or whatever.
No Bursts. Ever!
Juniors - TV yellow.
Standards - Goldtops
Customs - Black.
-
black lp's need to be blacktops only - natural sides please
You're right, that's probably the winner. :D
That middle one with P-90s! :o I would kill (.....or at least mildly maim....) for that guitar!
But blacktops are pretty hard to come by (vintage or modern), all-black is much more common, sadly.
-
My big bugbear with Gibson has been that if you don't want vintage sunbursts or black/white/gold, then you're largely out of luck. Quite like the Manhattan Midnight finish on the new Classics, and I liked the Brimstone finish they did a couple of years ago, but the burst finishes that PRS have been doing in the last couple of years absolutely leave them for dead.
One of these days I'm going to succumb to a moment of weakness and buy that used purple Lion Custom off Johnathan.
-
The black top/ natural back LP's look so much better IMO, never seen one of those before? And this one is a great colour!

Thats really strange that. You can see theMaple finish, but it's almost like you can see another wood texture/grain in there too. Ican seeit in both pics. Anyone else see this, or have a reasonable explanation?
-
Figuring in maple is (I believe) the result of how the tree has grown, it's not the grain itself. Because in the post PRS era we've become used to seeing very intense figuring you're just used to the figuring masking the grain.
-
Ahh, I was really confused then. Thanks for clearing that up :)
-
Yep, it's a mixture of figuring (flames) and the grain (rings).
-
one of these love duesenberg (http://www.triumphmusic.ca/kms/img/gallery/42/49_BluePearl-G076-frontfull.jpg)

There is just not enough purple in this thread
Quite like the Jaymz poiple one:

I have a few colours that I like. I have bought a couple more since this shot, so I should get them all out again for pics, but it will still be at least another month until I get the builders out of here.
The goldtop with P-90's is a 54, the darkburst is a Will Scott custom make, the sunburst is a 53 conversion, the goldtop with PG-Blues is a 1986 Darkback. I don't have the 71 55 reissue custom anymore, but do have a 71 custom with HB's. The special is a 1960.

Yeah guys, all very very cool guitars. Anyone suporting a honeyburst or lemon burst type color?

I do, but the point is what you like. It's all about personal taste.

Yes, I posted a pic earlier in this thread.
-
I like the sobriety of a tobacco sunburst or a silverburst
there's also a difference between 50's bursts (very natural and gradual) and late 70's/early 80's bursts (deeper and intense)
I like both styles
my '78 Greco has a 50's style burst

and here's an '81 Gibson

I guess this could be referred to as Lemonburst?
As for my favourite LP colours I like Cherry Sunburst on a plain top (find it too much on a flametop), Tobacco Sunburst, Alpine White, Honeyburst, Iced Tea Burst, Silverburst (on some guitars) aswell as Blues and Purples but you don't see too many of those around in comparison.
-
Silverburst really does it for me. I'd love to get me a silverburst LP with a really nice flamed maple fretboard....

Me likey that Brow

As I'm currently obsessed with fashion I would treat the LP as an accessory by matching the colour of the guitar to the outfit I'm wearing.
Saying that, I have never seen an LP in seaform green ;)

It's actually a bit darker in person, my camera is cr@p!

Very cool guitar, and I love the matching headstock! Don't see that very often on LP style guitars.
-
+1.
I like that G-S guitar, I'll bet it sounds and plays great too.
