Hey. I picked up a pair of dirty fingers. Neck and bridge. They look legit but I think I got em cheap. They have adjustable poles on both bobbins, and the copper tape around em. They have a PAT number stamp but no date. I'm told they are 80s ones.
I measured the resistance of them. The bridge came up with 16.21K, but the neck read 16K. Is that typical? Seems like a high value for a neck pup compared to the bridge?

Well from what I'm aware of, the Dirty Fingers is a Universal pickup which can be used in both Bridge and Neck, so I'm guessing they're probably both the the same pickup. I could be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure it's one and the same. Maybe Gibson may have wired the neck a bit different to compensate, I'm not too sure. I actually started a thread earlier on this subject and learnt that DC rating doesn't necessarily mean output. I queried about 2 pickups which had a higher dc than the other, but the one with a higher dc, actually had less output. Here's the thread - https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=27392.msg359103#msg359103
Another thing regarding DC, look at the Miracle Man for example, they're both around 17k, but they both work well together.

i have a few sets of these. there is no special bridge or neck models.. but on the other hand, they sound pretty good in the neck, so don't worry about it ;)

That's a weird coincidence! :o
Without seeing this thread, I was looking up Dirty Fingers on Google no more than 10 minutes ago, trying to find out if there are distinct neck and bridge models (conclusion: there aren't)
Spooky! PDT_027

the Dirty Fingers I have is coil tapped, adds a bit versatility - looks to be a stock arrangement too, has a braided wire coming out of each coil.

Cheers guys. I'll give em a go at some point when I can get around to fitting them in something.

The DC resistance values are typical, and there was and is only one Dirty Fingers Model.
I actually have two of them in my pickup box but they have been rewound to slightly lower DC resistance which made them clearer and less muddy.
Cheers Stephan

they sound raw and brutal through a jcm800, but clean up alright.
i wouldn't mess around fitting them - loads of output!!
edit: they can be unsubtle and muddy too though, Feline describes them as gruff, which is true. but if you get them setup right they are great.. i have the bridge side pole pieces raised up 1-2mm more than the neck side. theres a sweet spot where the tone is still raw, but the muddiness disappears.
