I was trying my amp yesterday with a cheap 2 x 12 cab I bought at Christmas for £30. The cab has a couple of Celestion G12T-75s. The actual speakers in the cab -judging by the speaker codes- were from the transitional period in the mid noughties where despite being some of the very first Celestions made in China (horror!!! despair!!!) They sported many UK made parts, such as the paper cones and others...
Anyway, people tend to think of these speakers as 'metal' speakers but I wanted to see if they were any good for other styles... Sure, they sound edgier and more aggresive than my 'stock' speakers (Weber alnicos) but I don't think they do a bad job.
Judge for yourself;

The speakers were wired in series to accomodate for the 16 ohms needed for the head and the cab is opened back. Pic before I changed the wiring from paralell to series:

The T75 is my second favourite speaker coming in closely after the eminence equivalent the MAN O WAR which just has that little extra something and less flub in the low end that pushes it ahead of the T75

It generally depends what im feeling like. In the past it was all very metal based but lately ive been playing a lot of Pain of Salvation such as this

Im currently trying to pull away from the whole metal scene in general.

interesting! never heard of them before...

Compared to a Weber the 75 will sound more agressive. I like them though for rock and metal.

so the man o war is the eminence version of the g12t75? suspected that for a while but never actually found out for sure

yeah theyre very close voicing wise the man o war just doesnt have the same levels of low end. It still has plenty but its more usable i find.

My old JCM900 (2x12 open-back combo) had G12T75, and the result wasn't great - they work better in a closed-back 4x12 cab (same amp), but still lacking something IMHO. Now I once met a jazz player that was very happy with the very same combo (his was the 50w version IIRC), so go figure...

a jazzer playing a JCM900? amazing.....
