Title: Can anyone recommend me some good Metal Drum Samples? Also Bass Plugins?
Post by: Attica! on April 13, 2012, 02:02:07 PM
Wasn't sure where to put this thread, but thought it may be relevant in here.

I'm going to do some recordings at home by myself and I'm wondering whether anyone knows where I can find some good Drum Samples to suit Metalcore-style music? I'm wanting something that sounds huge. There's a bit of Double Bass work too, so prefereably something that sounds good for stuff like that, as to something that sounds like a metronome click when playing 16ths at around 200bpm.

Also looking for something that has good bass tones, where i can upload the midi and transfer it into a Bass Guitar.

Cheers,

Mike

Look into getting Ez Drummer then buy the Metal Machine expansion pack. I'm using Ez Drummer now and get very good results.

Yh, looked at them (EZ Drummer/Superior Drummer), but not got the spare funds to buy it. I've laready got Drum Software which is the best for what I use. I'm just looking for samples to use with it.

No drum samples will sound good doing 16ths at 200bpm. Sorry but you'll just end up with it sounding like a drum machine.

Having said that, I might have some WAV files here I could zip up for you.

Also got a good set of Rickenbacker bass samples that work well with a bit of distortion or Guitar Rig to mess the sound up.

It was more an example. I'm looking for a bass drum sample that is very tight, but also sounds massive, and you can hear it in your stomach with the frequences. It's hard to explain!

I'm using Superior 2.0 with the Metal Machine & the Metal Foundry expansions.  It's sounding pretty fking beefy for digital drums.

There are plenty bands out there using programmed drums playing tempos above that that don't sound like drum machines.

I'm half tempted to pull bits out of a bunch of songs and stick them on soundcloud without titles to see if folks can tell which are real and which are programmed. But I can't be arsed.

But tons of grind and black metal bands do it without it sounding like machines. Of course, there's also lots of them with real drummers that do sound like machines

EDIT: Of course they mostly still sound sampled, because they pretty much all are.

If you are looking for a quick in and out without much fuss, the Betamonkey loops are really really good. Sure, they aren't tweakable, but for getting your ideas mixed down without having to spend a bulk of your time mixing/programming drums... stellar.

This is not an endorsement for not learning to mix/program drums. Just saying it's a good product that serves it's purpose.

I do only have s 2.0. Are there any patterns on the expansions? I kinda miss DFH since you could drag&drop patterns there. Its kinda demotivating, writing music, when you have to draw up the drums. It takes about 50% of the time, if you want them to be just a little bit cool.
