Title: Urgent Help Needed!!!!
Post by: itamar101 on April 14, 2012, 09:14:20 AM
Hey,
I ordered a few electronics from BKP:
2 Jensen Caps
2 BKP 550k Volume Pots
1 CTS 3/4" Shaft Pot (for neck tone)
1 CTS 3/4" Shaft Pot (for bridge tone and master coil-split)

My first question is: When I bought the CTS pots I foolishly assumed that standard shaft = short shaft and therefore 3/4" = Long shaft (which is what I need for my les Paul). Was I correct in thinking this or am I $%&#ed?

I also realized that there might be a wiring problem:
I want the bridge tone to be a master coil split but I also want the neck to function normally as a neck tone control. Is this even possible?

Tone controls aren't that important to me as I rarely use it but I guess I would feel as if their was something missing of the neck pot was just sitting but not functioning.

A normal pot can't act as a coil split for both pickups - only one
You would need a dual gang pot for it to work as a master for both pickups
if you had both coil tap points attached to the same lug on the pot you would end up mixing coils from the two pickups and it would alter your switch selections

so i can still only have a bridge coil split then. Am I right? That doesn't really bother me as I only really expect to use the bridge for coil splits anyway.
If this is the case then the neck tone control can still function properly, right?
The functions would be like this:
Neck Pickup
Neck and Bridge
Neck and Coil Split Bridge (via push pull)
Bridge
Coil Split Bridge (via push pull)

Also, I'd still like to know whether the 3/4" are the same as long shaft pots.

Any help???
It's pretty urgent and I need to know whether 3/4" = Long Shaft / Whether 3/4" would fit in a Les Paul Studio?

Yes, 3/4" is a long shaft (standard/short shaft is about 3/8").

And you do normally need long shaft pots for a Les Paul.

Thanks!
Well I'm good then. I might get a DiMarzio 500k push pull for the neck though if I feel the need to add that function to the neck pickup but it probably doesn't matter. Anyway, Ill see how it turns out. Thanks for the help.
