Title: NGD
Post by: marauder on April 19, 2012, 11:01:28 AM
Didn't think I'd be getting another so quickly after Dave's Esquire, but...

Been after one of these Custom Shop 1957 VOS model Juniors, for a year or two.  Not many around in the UK.

The final straw was when I learned that CS Gibson rosewood boards are now "bi-layer", that sounds like plywood to me.

I snagged this for a very good price.  It's a 2006 in mint condition.  Previous owner obviously hadn't played it very often, and the setup on it is just how I would have done it myself.

Couldn't be happier with it, and it came with the case candy.

Oh yes he will!

Good lord man, that is so utterly cool.  :D

Great pictures, too, as usual.  You always take great pictures.  What's the weight like?

I saw something about "bi-layer" fretboards the other day, didn't know it applied to CS stuff.  :?  I see what you mean about the final straw, makes me think I should buy one myself before it's too late.....

In fact, I am on the lookout for a VOS Junior, but I want the '58 Doublecut version.  They are pretty rare, it seems.

I thought he might :)

It weighs 7.5-8lbs as an estimate.  Heavier than the CS SG, which I'm sure is made of mahogany effect helium, and much lighter than the R8.

That sounds about right - the CS Juniors/Specials seem to generally be a bit heavier than my MIJ Juniors, but nowhere near LP Standard weight!

I know everyone slags off Gibson, but I think the VOS guitars capture the vintage vibe extremely well without being heavily reliced.  I've only ever owned two proper vintage guitars, but the VOS feels/looks absolutely spot on to me.

It's way too clean for a rock guitar, and it's not even a DC, and NO, I'm NOT jealous... Not at all

Great looking guitar - sunburst single cut juniors are the dogs bollocks.  What's the neck like on it?
