Did anyone here actually learn from "Play in a Day"? I suspect most of us (even me) are a bit too young, but I do remember it being mentioned many times in interviews with some quite well-known players.

Well I had his book many moons ago and, by todays standards it would perhaps be considered out of date but I learned a few bits. I also met the man too and he was charming. RIP Bert.

Yes, the book in Philly's first pic. I don't think I got much from it. Except possibly termite eggs, it was a very old battered copy from the library.

He was a nice bloke. 5live were talking about him yesterday afternoon and the impact his book had on the music scene in this country. Talk about right place at the right time! He bought his first guitar in Petticoat Lane market and he said in an interview that when he walked home with it, people were asking him what it was. "It's a guitar" he said, they were saying "What's a guitar?"
Blimey the things we take for granted now!
