It's marketing stuff, but this might be useful to some folks.
It's a link I found in Digital Village's newsletter, and is their attempt at explaining/illustrating (and selling!) the fingerboard types in use by Gibson at the moment.

That's interesting.
There was something on the Andertons site too, a video clip where they actually compared the way the different woods affect the tone. Not sure I could find it again though....

24 mins though - I did watch all of it and liked the sound of the baked maple better (albeit through the internal speakers on my iMac)

I worked with an American singer/guitarist once who used to pour maple syrup on her sausage and bacon while it was frying.
Not sure that's the same concept. Just thought I should mention it.

I think you were right to mention it. It will definitely help some people make up their minds over fingerboards.

Ah! Just been discussing this with Mrs R - she was distracted by your avatar (who's that?), and I had to explain it all.
She has had sausage and bacon cooked like this, says it's pretty good. She didn't like obeche syrup when she tried it, though (that was on waffles, mind).

No idea who avatar guy is I'm afraid, he just seemed to be the right choice to stop people taking my posts here too seriously. I wasn't a fan of the maple syrup bacon when I tried it, too sweet. But then I like my bacon lean and grilled and crispy. Hope this helps with the fingerboard debate!

I am 99% certain that it is Jon Hamm in his role of Donald Francis "Don" Draper in the AMC series Madman, which is a drama about the ad man on Madison Avenue in NY starting in the 50s.
Amazing stuff and a great study of bygone times and their societys.

rosewood is better for use in a calorie-controlled diet, baked maple goes straight to the hips.

I had a chance to see a worn brown sg with a baked maple neck next to one of the old ones. the baked maple necks look horrible. really cheap looking.
