Ok guys, I'm looking for educated recommendations for 7-string pups for an upcoming RG7321 project.
My signal chain is very basic for 7 string stuff. Guitar straight into an unmodded Peavey 5150 II, through a Boogie "over-sized" Recto 4x12 loaded with V30's.
My playing style is post 80's thrash. Mostly mid tempo riff/hook oriented. But ranging to some faster tempo true thrash.
I'm looking for.....
1) High output to push my amp without using a boost.
2) Tight bass for galloping rhythm lines. But I do want it to be nice and big .
3) Smooth mids. Especially in the upper mids where the 5150 II is voiced.
4) Crisp but organic highs.
Over-all I want the sound to be tight and crisp, but not brittle. Also I like a fair amount of compression to smooth out single note lines. But I don't want to end up loosing all dynamics like with EMG's. A nice balance.
Thanks guys,
Eric

Whenever I think BKPs on basswood I tend to think slightly scooped pickups, like a Miracle Man set or either one on the bridge with a Cold Sweat on the neck.

Not an expert on this, but the MM seems a good choiche.

For me basswood is not that middy. I'd saw it's very balanced but has a lack of body (bass). Maybe I'm wrong and someone could correct with good info/arguments.

I've found the optimal BKP for Basswood + metal + Thrash is always the miracle man for me.
