Title: bridge humbucker suggestion?
Post by: FinlandGregor on February 10, 2006, 03:22:13 AM
Hello,

I have guitar with a single humbucker rout at the bridge and a single volume pot and I want to order a Bareknuckle humbucker for it.

here are the guitar specs:

25" Scale length
Neck-thru construction
Mahogany neck and body wings
Ebony fingerboard
Original Floyd Rose tremolo

This guitar is somewhat bright.

My favorite bands are mainly old-school metal from the 80s:  Megadeth, Exciter, King Diamond, Venom, Anvil, Testament, Abattoir, et al.

My amp is a 1983 Marshall JCM800 (stock) with EL34 glass.  I experiment with a variety of dist boxes for extra grind and boost.

Which Bareknuckle would be my best success?

Many thanks,
Gregor

Probably a Nailbomb.

If it has just one vol pot choose something not too bright as the tone load is important to get rid of some top high end.

Awesome man Welcome to the forum!

Diamond, Venom, Anvil, Testament, Abattoir awesome bands!.  The Holy Diver into a TS9 & JCM 800 probably will fit the vintage feel you are after. I can't speak for the Holy Diver or the Nailbomb though but just a thought.

/E

Ps: Just bought tickets to King Diamond gig in april

I would go for a Nailbomb, I think the Holy diver/Miracle man may be too bright. For a single HB guitar It would be a good choice as it is highly versitle.

Many thanks for the replies!

Yes, I read the specs and some reviews of the Nailbomb and it sounds like a great choice.  The versatility is a plus as I like to roll the volume down for cleaner sounds.  I think a black open-poled Nailbomb would also look top drawer on this guitar, as it is finished in matte black with black hardware.

Two more questions:

Since I have a Floyd tremolo, I'm assuming I should order the 52mm spacing?

Also, since I won't be doing any coil splitting or tapping, or series/parallel switching, should I just order the Braided 2 conductor option?  Is there any difference in tone between it and the 4 conductor option?

Thanks again

Thats correct. There is no tone differece between 2 and 4 con, just the ability to coil tap. Should be a kick ass axe!

52mm Nailbomb - I have a basswood/maple board Ibanez RG that is very bright. Tim used it on the BKP Nailbomb demo and it doesn't sound harsh or too bright at all with the Nailbomb!
