Hello,
I'm considering replace the stock pickups in my Gibson DC Standard plus (490R - 498T), it's between Les Paul and SG, in D standard, i play through a Engl Blackmore, this amp is bright.
I play modern metal, i want more precise pickup than the stock pup's.
I emailed BKP and recommend me Cold Sweat for the bridge, but i think it's so bright for my amp, i don't want sound too thin.
Anyone can help me, please?

If you are worried about the hollowness of the Cold Sweat - try the Painkiller
-
I really liked the Miracle Man in my SG. Didn't sound thin at all.
-
Alnico Nailbomb - modern, aggressive and tight but the alnico magnet giving a little versatility as well.
-
Nailbombs I'd say.

played the alnico nailbomb I had in my '73 les paul custom through my friends 100w Zambelli Incinerator amp (Soldano style power amp, 4 x 6L6's, ENGL based preamp circuit)
that was one of the best metal tones I ever heard in person
I remember it sounded killer through the '77 Zambelli modded 50w Marshall JMP I had as well (it had a Jose/Cameron-like mod, but without diodes)
the cold sweat in the same guitar wasn't a great match for those amps
the nailbomb fitted like a glove and would be my first pick for that type of tone
it was fat, tight and aggressive without getting too sharp
-
Yeah I vote A-Bombs too
-
All right, thanks guys. The Nailbomb will be the first in my list :D
I think it can sound great with my rig and it's very versatile.
Shuld I'l go with a calibrated set?
-
depends on how you like your neck tones
the neck bomb is similar to the bridge pickup, but like a heavily underwound version of it, so it's very bright and scooped, tons of top end and picking attack
reminds me of a duncan '59 a bit, but way hotter and much brighter
I'd personally go with something warmer
the neck cold sweat is a common option, since it's really well balanced on all frequencies and still powerful for a neck pickup

A-Bomb bridge and Cold Sweat neck sounds like a great combination to me. I've heard good things about the Holydiver neck too, though I've only tried the bridge version. I'm sure both would work well.

I like the HD neck myself, but don't know if they'd be a great combo like the CS/AB combo
