Title: Treble Bypass Mod
Post by: Fixxxer_1988 on May 28, 2012, 10:13:25 AM: Does anyone have any experience with fitting a treble by pass mod into a guitar? I have PRS which was fitted with one when it was stock but that was so long ago I don't remember if it was really that different. I was thinking of fitting a 180pf accross the in and out of the volume.

Please share any other values recommendation or different ways of going about the mod.

I am fittig a black dog in the bridge and a mule in the neck of it make any difference.

My volume is always 5-8 and then 10 when i need a little push.

Post by: Fixxxer_1988 on May 28, 2012, 12:54:45 PM: I use the volume control to control my whole sound, from cleans to crunch to full on leads. I set and forget the amp and never use footswitches. it is pretty old fashioned but it works for me. Just wanted something that will let me have the same/similar EQ from 1 on the volume to 10. I have a tone to control the darkness I don't want the volume to do the same!

Post by: Miracle Man on May 28, 2012, 05:41:10 PM: 180pf is the original PRS value. I've tried 50s wiring, 50pf to 1000pf and almost everything in between. In the end I installed BKP/CTS 550k pots with regular (not 50s) wiring and I love it. There is some treble loss but it sounds really sweet without getting muddy. I highly recomend it.

The next best thing (IMHO) is regular wiring with a Suhr-style bypass: 150k/680pf in parallel. You get a different taper that way, much more linear but the clarity is great without losing brightness. If you really want a "guitar mounted gain control" this is the way to go.
